IB results day in Malaysia for the November 2026 session falls in the early hours of Thursday 17 December 2026. The IB releases results to schools on the evening of Wednesday 16 December in UK time, which is 3:00 am or 5:00 am in Malaysia. For the May 2027 session, expect results from 8:00 pm Malaysia time, at schools on Monday 5 July and on the IB's candidate website on Tuesday 6 July 2027.[1]

The two possible hours both come from the IB. Its Assessment FAQ says November results go to schools from 9:00 pm GMT, the hour it used in 2024, but its notice for the November 2025 session moved the release to 7:00 pm GMT.[2] The IB announces each November's hour about a month ahead, on 19 November in 2024 and 17 November in 2025, so look for the 2026 notice in mid-November. We will update this page when it appears.

Some websites still say November results come out in January. That has not been the case since 2024, when the IB moved the November release to 16 December so that students could meet university application deadlines in December.[3]

Every time here is Malaysia time (MYT, UTC+8), the same clock as Singapore and Brunei. The UK is on GMT from 25 October 2026 to 28 March 2027 and on BST (UTC+1) otherwise, so it is eight hours behind Malaysia in December and seven in July.

When are IB November 2026 results released in Malaysia?

The IB gives November times in GMT only, and in December the UK is on GMT, so add eight hours. Results reach schools through IBIS on Wednesday 16 December in the UK, when it is already Thursday 17 December in Malaysia.

In November, the candidate website opens six hours after schools by default. Your school can change that to any time from the same moment as the school up to 48 hours later, so ask your coordinator which they have chosen. The IB also staggers the release by time zone, and your exact time is printed on your Individual PIN report and shown under the Results tab.

The November session is the smaller one

Far fewer students sit in November. In all, 23,392 students worldwide received November 2025 results, with a global average of 29.3 points,[5] against more than 209,000 in May 2026. For anyone who sat in May, November is also the first chance to retake.

When is IB results day 2027?

May sessions follow a fixed rule. Results reach schools on 5 July, and the candidate website opens from 12:00 GMT on 6 July. The UK is on BST in July, so 12:00 GMT is 1:00 pm in London and 8:00 pm in Malaysia. For May 2026 the IB announced exactly that, in Singapore time, which is the same as Malaysia's: schools from 8:00 pm on Sunday 5 July and the candidate website from 8:00 pm on Monday 6 July.[6]

IB notice with the timesTue 30 Jun 2026Expected in late June 2027

The 2027 column applies the same rule to the 2027 calendar, and the IB has not announced those times yet. It published its May notices on 27 June 2025 and 30 June 2026, so the 2027 times should follow in the last days of June 2027. Release is staggered in 15-minute steps by time zone, so check your PIN report for your exact slot.

Schools may hand results to students as soon as they receive them. If the expected dates hold, some of you will hear on the evening of Monday 5 July 2027, and everyone else will log in on Tuesday 6 July.

How to check your IB results on candidates.ibo.org

You need two things from your school, a personal code and a PIN, and with those the login takes a minute.[7]

Logging in on results day
  1. Get your personal code and PIN from your IB coordinator
  2. Find your release time on the PIN report
  3. Open candidates.ibo.org and type in both
  4. Accept the terms on your first visit
  5. Choose View results or the Results tab

Type the code and PIN instead of pasting them. The personal code is case-sensitive but the PIN is not, and three wrong attempts block access for 30 minutes. The IB does not give login details to students or parents: only your coordinator can, and coordinators may withhold them at their discretion. If you sat more than one session, each session has its own PIN.

Never give your code and PIN to a university. If a university needs official results, the IB sends them directly, and if you ask before results are released, it sends them to six universities free of charge. Further transcripts cost extra.

What the IB results page shows

What you see on the candidate website
On the pageWhat it tells you
Subject gradesA grade from 1 to 7 for each subject. HL and SL subjects count the same.
EE/TOK pointsUp to 3 bonus points from your Theory of Knowledge and extended essay grades.
Total pointsOut of 45. The diploma needs at least 24, plus every other condition.
P beside a subjectThe grade is still pending.
N beside a subjectNo grade, because a requirement was not met.
Detailed viewYour scaled mark, the lower and upper boundary of your grade and the marks needed for the next grade, unless your coordinator has switched it off.

Component marks are not on the page. They reach your coordinator through IBIS shortly after results day, with the grade boundaries for each paper; under the IB's 2025 procedures that happened on 7 July for the May session.[8]

Where to find your grade boundaries

The IB does not publish grade boundaries on its public website. Senior examiners set them after marking, in June for the May session and in late November or early December for the November session.[9] Your coordinator receives them, and the detailed view shows the boundaries of the grade you got in each subject. Boundary tables posted online are unofficial: tutoring sites and other third parties compile them.

How the 45-point IB score works

Each of your six subjects is graded from 1 to 7, and Theory of Knowledge and the extended essay together can add up to three more points. The maximum of 45 is six subjects times seven, plus three from the core.[10] CAS earns no points, but the diploma is not awarded without it.

How the 45 points add up
PartHow it is gradedPoints
Six subjects, three or four at HL1 to 7 eachUp to 42
Theory of Knowledge and extended essayA to E each, combined in the core matrixUp to 3
CAS (creativity, activity, service)Completed or not, with no grade0
TotalThe diploma needs at least 2445

Reaching 24 points is necessary but not enough on its own. The IB also requires:

  • CAS completed, and a grade in every subject, Theory of Knowledge and the extended essay
  • no grade 1, no more than two grade 2s and no more than three grades of 3 or below
  • at least 12 points at HL (the best three count if you take four HL subjects) and at least 9 at SL (5 if you take only two SL subjects)
  • no E in Theory of Knowledge or the extended essay, which is a failing condition

The core points come from a matrix of your two core grades. A B in Theory of Knowledge with a C in the extended essay, for example, earns 2 points.

Malaysia's share of these totals is small: the IB's final bulletin for May 2025 counts 817 students in Malaysia.[12] Whether a score is good depends on what you need it for, and the Malaysian thresholds further down set the bar for the most common goals.

What to do after IB results day

Once the grades are in, the next decisions come quickly, and each has its own deadline.

Asking for a re-mark (enquiry upon results)

Only your school can ask the IB to re-mark your work. The IB calls this an enquiry upon results (EUR) and does not accept requests from students or parents. Because a re-mark can lower a grade as well as raise it, your school needs written consent from you or your legal guardian before it applies. If it applies without consent and the grade falls, the original grade is not reinstated.

Enquiry upon results: the IB's categories
CategoryWhat it doesCan the grade change?
Category 1 re-markAn examiner re-marks your externally assessed work in one subjectYes, up or down
Category 1 reportExplains how the re-mark was done; only after a Category 1 re-markNo
Category 2AReturns all candidates' work for one component to the schoolNo
Category 2BReturns your externally assessed work in one subjectNo
Category 3 remoderationRemoderates the school's internal assessment marks in a subjectUp only

The IB's cut-off is 15 September for a May session and 15 March for a November session: 15 March 2027 for November 2026 results, and 15 September 2027 for May 2027. Your school's own deadline may be earlier, so talk to your coordinator on results day. Each category carries a fee, except that none is charged when a Category 1 re-mark changes the grade, and no category can be requested twice for the same subject. When you are deciding, the detailed view helps: it shows how many marks you needed for the next grade.

Retaking IB subjects

You can retake a subject in any later session, at any IB World School offering the Diploma Programme, but schools are not obliged to accept retake candidates. There is no longer a cap on sessions, because the IB dropped its three-session rule in 2023. After a retake, your best grade in the subject counts towards the diploma.[13]

Move quickly after May results if a retake is likely. Under the IB's 2025 procedures, a May candidate retaking in November had to be registered by 29 July to pay the lowest fee, even with a re-mark still pending, and the registration could be withdrawn with a refund if the re-mark changed the grade. A retake also follows the current subject guide, so if the syllabus has changed since you first sat it, you sit the new version.

Predicted grades and university offers

Offers made before results day are usually conditional on your final IB results, and they tend to name a total plus grades in particular HL subjects. UCAS, which runs applications to UK universities, gives this example of a condition: 36 points from the IB Diploma, including 6 in Higher Level English.[14] On results day the university checks your results against those conditions.

If you meet them, the place is confirmed. If you fall short, contact the university straight away: it may still accept you with lower grades, or offer a place on another course. Tell it if you have asked for a re-mark too. In 2026, UCAS told applicants that most universities needed the outcome of a review or appeal by 2 September.[15]

What IB scores mean in Malaysia: UPU, medicine and scholarships

Malaysian universities and sponsors each set their own IB thresholds. These are the published ones that families ask about most.

IB requirements for Malaysian routes
RouteIB requirementAlso required
Public universities (UPU)IB Diploma, under Kategori F2SPM credit in Bahasa Melayu and a pass in Sejarah; MUET Band 1.0, or IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge English or ELS
Medicine (MMC minimum)33 points, with Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at HL and at least 5 in eachEach medical school's own entry requirements
Bank Negara Kijang Undergraduate Scholarship38 pointsFive credits including Bahasa Melayu, English and Mathematics at SPM or an equivalent; an offer from an approved university
Khazanah Global Scholarship (undergraduate)38 points; predicted results accepted when you applyAn offer from, or an application to, an approved university; aged 21 or under at enrolment

Public universities through UPU

UPU lists the International Baccalaureate among the equivalent qualifications in Kategori F,[16] and its circular for the 2026/2027 intake gives IB applicants their own code, F2.[17] The diploma is only part of the requirement. UPU is open to Malaysian citizens only, and applicants in this category also need SPM with a credit in Bahasa Melayu and a pass in Sejarah (a Bahasa Melayu credit from SPM Ulangan counts), plus MUET Band 1.0 or higher. F2 applicants may use IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge English or ELS in place of MUET, subject to university approval.

If you lack either, you would need to sit that paper in SPM. Our guide to answering SPM Sejarah Paper 2 covers its structured, KBAT and essay questions, and we teach SPM Bahasa Melayu and SPM Sejarah online. Timing matters as well. For the 2026/2027 intake, the UPU window for STPM and equivalent applicants ran in two phases between 29 January and 15 May 2026, weeks before May-session IB results, so read the 2027/2028 circular as soon as UPU publishes it.

Medicine

The Malaysian Medical Council sets the minimum IB result for entering a medical degree: 33 points, with Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics all taken at HL and at least 5 in each. The rule has applied since 1 January 2024.[18]

The subjects matter as much as the total. A student with 36 points but Mathematics at SL does not meet the minimum, while one with 33 points and a 5 in each of HL Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics does. Medical schools set their own requirements on top of this floor, and they can be higher, so check each one before you apply.

Scholarships

Two well-known undergraduate scholarships set the IB bar at 38 points. Bank Negara Malaysia's Kijang Undergraduate Scholarship also asks for at least five credits, including Bahasa Melayu, English and Mathematics, in SPM or another recognised secondary exam, and an offer from one of its approved universities. In 2026 it was open to Malaysians aged 22 or under on 1 July, for degrees linked to the Bank's work such as economics, finance and law, with applications from 17 to 26 April.[19] That window closed more than two months before May results came out, so ask Bank Negara which results it will accept.

The Khazanah Global Scholarship sets the same 38 points for direct undergraduate entry and is open to applicants aged 21 or under at enrolment. Its undergraduate round normally opens in June, before May results are out, so it accepts predicted results when you apply and asks for your final results before it confirms an award.[20]

Frequently asked questions

What time are IB results released in Malaysia?

For the November 2026 session, results reach schools at 3:00 am or 5:00 am on Thursday 17 December 2026, depending on which of its two published hours the IB uses, and students can log in from 9:00 am or 11:00 am by default. For May sessions, the IB released results at 8:00 pm Malaysia time in 2025 and 2026, to schools on 5 July and on the candidate website on 6 July, and the same times are expected in 2027.

When are IB November 2026 results released?

On 16 December 2026 in UK time, which is Thursday 17 December in Malaysia. By default students can log in to candidates.ibo.org six hours after their school, at 9:00 am or 11:00 am Malaysia time, unless the school sets another time up to 48 hours later. The IB announced the hour in mid-November in both 2024 and 2025.

When is IB results day 2027?

For the May 2027 session, results are expected to reach schools from 8:00 pm Malaysia time on Monday 5 July 2027, and the candidate website from 8:00 pm on Tuesday 6 July. These follow the IB's fixed rule for May sessions; the IB publishes the times in a notice in late June.

How do I check my IB results?

Go to candidates.ibo.org at your release time, type in the personal code and PIN your IB coordinator gave you, and open View results or the Results tab. The personal code is case-sensitive, and three wrong attempts block access for 30 minutes.

What should I do if I have lost my IB PIN?

Ask your school's IB coordinator. The IB does not give login details to students or parents, and coordinators can withhold access at their discretion. Each exam session has its own PIN.

What do P and N mean on IB results?

P means the grade for that subject is still pending. N means the IB could not award a grade because a requirement was not met. Your coordinator can tell you more about either.

Can I see the IB grade boundaries?

The IB does not publish boundary tables on its website; your coordinator receives them. The detailed view on the candidate website shows the lower and upper boundary of your grade in each subject and the marks you needed for the next grade, unless your coordinator has switched that view off.

What is the deadline for an IB re-mark?

The IB's cut-off is 15 September for May sessions and 15 March for November sessions, so 15 March 2027 for November 2026 results. Only your school can submit the request, and its own deadline may be earlier. Because a re-mark can lower a grade, the school needs your written consent first.

Can IB students apply to Malaysian public universities?

Yes. UPU accepts the IB Diploma as an equivalent qualification under Kategori F2, but applicants must be Malaysian citizens with an SPM credit in Bahasa Melayu and a pass in Sejarah, plus MUET Band 1.0 or an accepted English test such as IELTS.

What IB score do I need for medicine in Malaysia?

The Malaysian Medical Council's minimum is 33 points, with Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics all at Higher Level and at least 5 in each. Medical schools can ask for more, so check each one.

If the IB announces different times, its notice to schools takes precedence over this page.
