Form 1 to 3 Science Tuition Online

KSSM Science for Form 1, 2 and 3, from cells and matter to electricity and space, with the investigation skills that decide the science stream.

Afterkelas teaches lower secondary Science online to Form 1, 2 and 3 students on the KSSM syllabus. Screened university tutors run live classes, 1-to-1 or in small groups, in English for DLP students or in Bahasa Melayu, covering every chapter and the experiment questions.

What KSSM Science covers in Form 1 to 3

The chapters of each form, in textbook order. Biology, chemistry, physics and earth science are mixed in every year, which is why a student can be strong in one chapter and lost in the next.

Scientific investigation runs through every chapter

Form 1 opens with scientific investigation: variables, hypotheses, measuring and recording. It looks like an introduction to skip, but the same skills are tested inside every later chapter. A question on heat or acids often gives its marks for naming the manipulated, responding and constant variables and for writing a hypothesis that links two of them.

Tutors teach those skills once and then reuse them in every topic, so that by Form 3 a student plans a fair test without thinking about the steps. Experiments that are safe at home, such as dissolving, absorbency or a pendulum, are done on camera.

Where marks are lost

Units and calculations cost marks from Form 2 onwards, when Science starts to use formulas: speed, density, current and resistance, energy and power. A correct method with a missing unit, or with the wrong unit carried through, loses the final mark. Students practise writing the formula, substituting with units, and only then calculating.

Explanations are the other gap. "Because of heat" does not earn the mark that "because the particles gain kinetic energy and move faster" does. Tutors push for the mechanism in every explanation, which is also what SPM Physics, Chemistry and Biology will expect.

Form 3 Science and the science stream

Many schools look at Form 3 Science and Mathematics results when they place students into the science stream for Form 4. Form 3 Science also previews SPM: respiration and transport lead into Biology, reactivity of metals and thermochemistry into Chemistry, and electricity, energy and radioactivity into Physics. A student who finishes Form 3 secure in those chapters starts upper secondary science well ahead.

A question, worked through

A Form 2 question on electricity, of the kind set in school tests and UASA papers. Working in three short steps, each with its unit, keeps every mark.

Question

A 2 Ω resistor and a 4 Ω resistor are connected in series to a 12 V battery. Calculate (a) the total resistance, (b) the current in the circuit, (c) the potential difference across the 4 Ω resistor.

  1. Resistors in series add: R = 2 Ω + 4 Ω = 6 Ω.
  2. Use V = IR for the whole circuit: I = V ÷ R = 12 V ÷ 6 Ω = 2 A. The same current flows through both resistors, because a series circuit has one path.
  3. Use V = IR for the 4 Ω resistor alone: V = 2 A × 4 Ω = 8 V.
  4. Check: the 2 Ω resistor takes 2 A × 2 Ω = 4 V, and 4 V + 8 V = 12 V, the battery's voltage.

Answer (a) 6 Ω. (b) 2 A. (c) 8 V.

Frequently asked questions

Is lower secondary Science taught in English or Bahasa Melayu?

Whichever the school uses. DLP students learn and answer Science in English and other students learn it in Bahasa Melayu. The terms differ, for example responding variable and pemboleh ubah bergerak balas, so the tutor uses the school's.

Does Form 3 Science decide whether my child gets into the science stream?

In many schools it is one of the results that count, together with Mathematics. Each school sets its own criteria, so ask the school early in Form 3, and treat that year's Science and Mathematics results as the ones to protect.

Can experiments be done in an online class?

Many can, with things found at home, and the student does them on camera while the tutor asks for predictions and explanations. Anything involving flames, chemicals or sharp tools is shown on screen instead.

How much does Form 1 to 3 Science tuition cost?

The fee depends on the format (1-to-1 or a small group), how many classes a week and the tutor, so there is no single figure. Send an academic advisor your child's form, whether the class is DLP, and the latest Science result on WhatsApp, and you will get the current packages and a quote, usually within one working day.
