Primary Science Tuition Online for Year 1 to 6
KSSR Science from Year 1 to Year 6, with the experiment questions that school tests and UASA give most of their marks to.
Afterkelas teaches primary Science online to Year 1 to Year 6 pupils on the KSSR syllabus. Screened university tutors run live classes, 1-to-1 or in small groups, in English for DLP pupils or in Bahasa Melayu, with simple experiments done at home.
What KSSR Science covers
KSSR Science is built on six themes that come back every year with harder content. Pupils in Years 1 to 3 observe, sort and describe; by Years 5 and 6 they plan fair tests, read results tables and explain what the results show.
Themes, Years 1 to 6
6 topics- Inquiry in science: science process skills and manipulative skills
- Life science: the human body, animals, plants and microorganisms
- Physical science: measurement, light, electricity, heat, force and speed
- Material science: properties of materials and states of matter
- Earth and space: the Earth, the Moon and the Solar System
- Technology and sustainability of life: machines, food preservation and waste
Where primary pupils lose marks in Science
Most lost marks in primary Science come from the experiment questions, not from the facts. A pupil who knows that plants need light can still drop two marks out of three on a question about a plant experiment, because those marks are for naming what was changed, what was measured and what was kept the same. Tutors teach those three as a routine, the way the bar model is taught in Mathematics.
The second gap is the explanation. "Because of the sun" earns nothing on its own; "because the sun heats the water, so it evaporates faster" earns the mark. Children practise writing a because-sentence with a cause and an effect, then checking that it answers the question that was asked.
Reading tables and graphs comes up in every year from Year 4. A tutor hands the child a results table, covers the conclusion, and asks what the numbers say before any rule is mentioned. That habit is exactly what the questions are written to test.
Experiments at home, on camera
Classes use what any kitchen has: a glass of water and a spoon of salt for dissolving, a torch and a toy for shadows, two cloths for an absorbency test, an iron nail in water for rusting. The child runs the experiment while the tutor watches through the camera and asks what they expect before it happens.
Doing it matters because the exam describes experiments the child has never seen. A pupil who has kept a variable the same with their own hands spots the idea quickly in an unfamiliar setup. Nothing needs special equipment, and anything involving heat or sharp objects is shown on screen or done by a parent.
DLP, Bahasa Melayu and the change in 2027
Science is taught in English in DLP classes and in Bahasa Melayu elsewhere, and the terms do not translate word for word: the manipulated variable is the pemboleh ubah dimanipulasikan, and a hypothesis is a hipotesis. A pupil who learns one set of terms at tuition and the other at school ends up translating under time pressure, so tutors teach in the school's language with the teacher's terms.
Children starting Year 1 on 4 January 2027 follow KP2027, the new national curriculum. In Years 1 and 2, Science is taught together with Health Education, Visual Arts and Music as one subject, Alam dan Manusia. Pupils already in Years 2 to 6 stay on KSSR Science until they leave primary school, and everything on this page applies to them unchanged.

A question, worked through
A Year 5 or Year 6 experiment question of the kind that appears in school tests and UASA papers. Most of the marks are for naming the variables, so the working names each one.
Question
Amir pours 100 ml of water into a small bowl and 100 ml into a wide tray, and leaves both in the sun. After three hours he measures the water left in each. (a) What does Amir change? (b) What does he measure? (c) Name one thing he keeps the same. (d) Which container will have less water left? Explain why.
- The variable Amir changes, the manipulated variable, is the surface area of the water: the tray spreads the same 100 ml over a wider area than the bowl.
- What he measures, the responding variable, is the volume of water left after three hours.
- Things he keeps the same, the constant variables, include the starting volume of 100 ml, the place in the sun and the three hours. One is enough for the mark if it is something that could change the result.
- The tray will have less water left. The explanation needs both halves: a larger surface area exposes more water to the air, so more of it evaporates in the same time.
Answer (a) The surface area of the water. (b) The volume of water left. (c) For example, the starting volume of 100 ml. (d) The tray, because a larger surface area makes the water evaporate faster.
Frequently asked questions
Is primary Science taught in English or Bahasa Melayu?
Whichever the school uses. DLP pupils learn and answer Science in English, and other pupils learn and answer it in Bahasa Melayu. The tutor uses the same terms as the school, so the child never has to switch between two sets of words in a test.
My child knows the facts but scores badly on experiment questions. Why?
Experiment questions give most of their marks for naming the variables and explaining the result, not for recalling facts. A short routine practised until it is automatic usually lifts these marks within a few weeks: what was changed, what was measured, what stayed the same, and a because-sentence for the result.
What happens to Science for Year 1 pupils in 2027?
Year 1 pupils in 2027 start KP2027, where Science is taught with Health Education, Visual Arts and Music as Alam dan Manusia in Years 1 and 2. Tuition for those children follows the reading, writing and number work the school sets. Pupils in Years 2 to 6 carry on with KSSR Science.
How much does primary Science tuition cost?
The fee depends on the format (1-to-1 or a small group), how many classes a week and the tutor, so there is no single figure. Send an academic advisor your child's year, the language the school teaches Science in and the latest report on WhatsApp, and you will get the current packages and a quote, usually within one working day.
