Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia (MPM) has not yet announced when STPM 2026 results will be released. Last year's results, for STPM 2025, came out on Thursday, 18 June 2026, from 11:00 am by SMS and from 11:30 am on MPM's results portal.[1] This year's cohort sits its last paper on 17 December 2026, while last year's sat its last on 26 February 2026. With papers ending about ten weeks earlier in the exam season, last year's June date is no guide to this year's.[2]
MPM fixes each results day close to the time. Last year it posted the date on its Facebook page, and the national press reported it on 16 June, two days before results day.[3] We will update this page when MPM announces the 2026 date.
This guide explains how STPM's three semesters become one result, lists the 2026 cohort's remaining papers, and walks through every official way to check results, how the PNGK is calculated, re-checks, resits and what UPU expects next. The facts come from MPM and UPU documents and from press reports of MPM's announcements, all linked in the notes. Afterkelas teaches online and has no role in running STPM, so if MPM or your school says something different, follow them.
When will STPM 2026 results be released?
No date has been set. The latest STPM 2026 results MPM has released are the Semester 2 results, on 9 September 2026.[4] Past results days show how far the date has moved:
| Cohort | Results released |
|---|---|
| STPM 2025 | Thursday, 18 June 2026 |
| STPM 2024 | Tuesday, 24 June 2025 |
| STPM 2023 | Tuesday, 23 July 2024 |
| STPM 2022 | Thursday, 13 July 2023 |
| STPM 2021 | Thursday, 18 August 2022 |
| STPM 2020 | Thursday, 1 July 2021 |
| STPM 2019 | Tuesday, 25 February 2020 |
| STPM 2018 | Monday, 11 March 2019 |
| STPM 2017 | Tuesday, 6 March 2018 |
Before the pandemic, results came in late February or March. The 2017 cohort, for example, sat Semester 3 from 6 to 14 November 2017 and its last resit paper on 28 November, and its results came on 6 March 2018.[5] The 2025 cohort, by contrast, sat Semester 3 from 20 January 2026 and its last resit paper on 26 February 2026, then waited until 18 June for results. The three cohorts before it got theirs in June 2025, July 2024 and July 2023.[6]
Where MPM announces the date
MPM posts each results date as a notice on its portal, mpm.edu.my, and on its social media accounts: Facebook (Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia), Instagram and TikTok (majlispeperiksaan) and YouTube (MEC MPM). Last year's notice carried everything a candidate needed in one image: the date, the SMS format and the opening times for SMS and the portal.
How STPM works: three semesters, one result
Form 6 students sit STPM in three semesters. Each subject has a written paper at the end of every semester, and some add coursework, such as the Pengajian Am project or the science practicals. Semester 1 and Semester 2 results come out during Form 6, but MPM's results pages state that semester results alone cannot be used to apply to universities.[7] The result universities read is the overall one, released on results day, which combines all three semesters.
There is no minimum grade to move from one semester to the next. A weak Semester 1 or Semester 2 paper can be resat once, at the end of Semester 3: Ulangan 1 for Semester 1 papers and Ulangan 2 for Semester 2 papers. Each resit costs RM50 a paper, government school candidates included, and the higher of the two scores counts. Semester 3 papers and coursework cannot be resat.[8]
Each subject grade comes from your best total across the Semester 1 or Ulangan 1 paper, the Semester 2 or Ulangan 2 paper, the Semester 3 paper and any coursework or its written alternative. Weightings differ by subject. In Pengajian Am, papers 1 and 3 count 26.67% each, paper 2 counts 20.00%, and the coursework project, or the written paper that replaces it, counts 26.67%.
The 2026 cohort is also the first examined on MPM's refined syllabus, and two familiar names have changed on its timetable: Mathematics (T) is now Mathematics (954), and Mathematics (M) is Management Mathematics (950).[9]

How to check STPM results: online, SMS and school
MPM releases results online and by SMS, and on overall results day through schools as well. Keep two details ready: your MyKad number and your angka giliran Definition Your STPM index number. MPM's results page shows the format with the sample SR0055/1590. .
- Have your MyKad number and angka giliran ready
- SMS STPM, your MyKad number and angka giliran to 15888
- Log in at stpm.mpm.edu.my/stpmK and save your slip
- Download your e-Sijil later the same day
Online
Go to stpm.mpm.edu.my/stpmK, or open MPM's portal at mpm.edu.my and choose Sistem Semakan Keputusan Bagi Pelajar STPM. Enter your MyKad number and angka giliran to see your result slip, then print or save it. Last year the portal opened at 11:30 am.
By SMS
Type STPM, a space, your MyKad number, a space and your angka giliran, and send it to 15888. Last year the SMS service opened at 11:00 am, half an hour before the portal. For the 2022 results, MPM kept it running for ten days, until 12:00 noon on 23 July 2023.
Through your school
MPM issues the official overall result slip through the state education departments on results day, so school candidates also receive it from their schools. For the 2022 results, MPM said schools would release them from 11:30 am. Private candidates use the portal or SMS.
Your certificate (e-Sijil)
The slip is not a certificate. From the 2025 results onwards, MPM issues the STPM certificate only as an e-Sijil, which you download from sijil.mpm.edu.my and print yourself. MPM's rules allow downloads from 3:00 pm on results day; last year its results page gave 5:00 pm. The download is free for two years and costs RM20 after that, and a printed certificate from MPM costs RM60, postage included. You qualify for a certificate with at least a partial pass in one subject.
What the result slip shows
For each subject, the overall slip lists the grade for every paper, the subject grade and its grade value (NGMP), plus your PNGK if you sat four or five subjects including Pengajian Am. A letter code takes the place of a grade when something is wrong:
| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
| W | Fees not paid; your results are withheld until they are |
| X | Absent from a paper, or no coursework submitted |
| Y | Result held back while a misconduct case is investigated |
| Z | Result for the paper or subject cancelled for misconduct |
STPM grades and CGPA (PNGK): how they are calculated
STPM grades run from A to F. Each subject grade carries a grade value, and MPM groups the grades into three levels:
| Grade | Grade value and level |
|---|---|
| A | 4.00, full pass |
| A- | 3.67, full pass |
| B+ | 3.33, full pass |
| B | 3.00, full pass |
| B- | 2.67, full pass |
| C+ | 2.33, full pass |
| C | 2.00, full pass |
| C- | 1.67, partial pass |
| D+ | 1.33, partial pass |
| D | 1.00, partial pass |
| F | 0.00, fail |
Your PNGK, the CGPA printed on your slip, is the average grade value of your four best subjects, and Pengajian Am must be one of the four. MPM's rules work it through with this example:
| Subject and grade | Grade value |
|---|---|
| Pengajian Am, B+ | 3.33 |
| Physics, B | 3.00 |
| Chemistry, A- | 3.67 |
| Biology, A | 4.00 |
| PNGK | 14.00 ÷ 4 = 3.50 |
With five subjects, the weakest one other than Pengajian Am is left out. In MPM's second example, a candidate with Pengajian Am C+, Mathematics C, Physics B-, Chemistry D and Biology C drops the D and ends with (2.33 + 2.00 + 2.67 + 2.00) ÷ 4 = 2.25. No PNGK is printed if Pengajian Am carries one of the codes above, or, for a candidate with four subjects, if any of the other three does.
MPM's rules give grades and grade values but no mark ranges, and they classify candidates' marks as confidential (SULIT). Treat the mark ranges for STPM grades that circulate online as unofficial.
What a 4.00 or a good PNGK means for UPU
UPU's general requirement for STPM leavers is a PNGK of at least 2.00 with at least a C in three subjects, Pengajian Am among them. Beyond that, UPU ranks applicants by merit: your PNGK supplies 90% of the score (PNGK ÷ 4.00 × 90) and co-curricular activities the other 10%.[11] UPU's own example turns a PNGK of 3.50 into 78.75 academic marks; with 9.00 co-curricular marks, the merit score is 87.75. A PNGK of 4.00 earns the full 90 academic marks.
A high merit score is not an offer by itself. UPU also weighs each programme's special requirements, interviews or tests where a programme sets them, the order of your choices and the number of places. You can work out your own score with UPU's merit calculator for STPM leavers.
UPU sorts STPM applicants into two categories: Category S (science stream) for anyone who took two of Mathematics (M), Mathematics (T), Physics, Chemistry, Biology, ICT and Sains Sukan, and Category A (arts stream) for everyone else. UPU's 2026/2027 circular still uses the old mathematics names.
How to re-check STPM results (semakan semula)
If a paper grade looks wrong, you can ask MPM to re-check it. MPM calls this rayuan penyemakan semula, and it is separate from a UPU appeal, which concerns university offers.
| Detail | |
|---|---|
| Where | Online only, at mecea.mpm.edu.my/SS_STPM |
| When | Five days from the release of each semester's results |
| Fee | RM50.00 a paper, paid online |
| What MPM does | Checks the mark count and the grade, and has a very experienced examiner re-mark the script |
| Outcome | Within 15 working days of the closing date, on MPM's portal; MPM's decision is final |
| Not covered | Coursework, written alternatives to coursework, and resit (Ulangan) papers |
The window that matters most opens with the Semester 3 results, not on overall results day. Last year Semester 3 results came out at 10:00 am on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, and re-check applications closed at 11:30 pm on Saturday, 23 May, nearly four weeks before the overall results on 18 June.[12] A candidate who waited for the full slip had already missed the chance to re-check a Semester 3 paper.
| Results | Re-check window |
|---|---|
| Semester 3, STPM 2025 | 10:00 am on 19 May to 11:30 pm on 23 May 2026 |
| Semester 2, STPM 2026 | 10:00 am on 9 September to 11:30 pm on 13 September 2026 |
STPM 2025 results in numbers
Last year's results set two records: 1,336 candidates scored a PNGK of 4.00, and the national CGPA rose to 2.88, the highest since the modular STPM began in 2013.[13] Of the 38,144 candidates who sat, 38,128 (99.96%) qualified for the certificate.
| STPM 2024 | STPM 2025 | |
|---|---|---|
| Registered | 42,861 | 40,199 |
| Sat the examination | 41,434 | 38,144 |
| PNGK of 4.00 | 1,266 (3.06%) | 1,336 (3.50%) |
| National CGPA | 2.85 | 2.88 |
| A in all five subjects | 53 | 60 |
| Full passes in four or five subjects | 76.55% | 77.64% (29,616) |
Put another way, about one candidate in 29 scored 4.00 last year, and more than three in four passed four or five subjects in full.
After STPM results: UPU, MUET and SPM requirements
STPM leavers apply for degree places at Malaysia's 20 public universities through UPUOnline, for the September or October intake only. UPU has not published its 2027/2028 dates. In the last cycle, STPM leavers applied months before their results:
| When | What happened |
|---|---|
| 28 January to 15 May 2026 | UPUOnline PIN on sale at BSN for RM10.60 |
| 29 January to 23 March 2026 | Application phase 1 |
| 13 April to 15 May 2026 | Application phase 2 |
| April to July 2026 | Calls for interviews and tests (education programmes from May) |
| Third week of July 2026 | Update phase: upload documents, update choices to match actual results |
| Second week of August 2026 | Main offers announced |
| Second to third week of August 2026 | Appeals, for applicants without an offer (10 days) |
| From 17 September 2026 | New students register |
| Fourth week of September 2026 | Appeal results |
| From 1 October 2026 | Registration after appeals |
Both application phases opened at 12:00 noon and closed at 5:00 pm, and both ended before the results came out. So in the last cycle, STPM leavers chose their programmes before they saw their results, and the update phase in July let them switch to programmes whose special requirements their actual results met. UPU's 2027/2028 circular will set the order for the 2026 cohort, so read it as soon as it comes out rather than waiting for your STPM slip.
You choose up to 12 programmes and must fill at least 6. Programmes with interviews or tests go in choices 1 to 4 (education programmes in choices 1 and 2 only) and can be picked only in phase 1. Successful applicants confirm their offer within nine days of the main offers; only applicants without an offer can appeal, within ten days and with up to four choices.
General entry requirements
| Requirement | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Citizenship | Malaysian citizen with a MyKad |
| SPM | A credit in Bahasa Melayu and a pass in Sejarah (SPM from 2013); a Bahasa Melayu credit from SPM Ulangan counts |
| STPM | PNGK 2.00 with at least a C in three subjects, including Pengajian Am |
| MUET | Band 1.0 from a test taken from Session 1 2021 onwards, valid for five years from its results date |
Each programme adds special requirements in UPU's e-Panduan, which can include a higher MUET band or set grades in particular STPM subjects.
MUET dates if you still need a result
Registration for the first of MPM's three MUET sessions in 2027 opens on 1 December 2026.[14] Session 1 speaking tests run from 31 March to 8 April 2027.
| Session | Registration | Written test |
|---|---|---|
| Session 1 | 1 December 2026 to 11 January 2027 | 10 April 2027 |
| Session 2 | 2 March to 23 April 2027 | 24 July 2027 |
| Session 3 | 22 June to 25 July 2027 | 23 October 2027 |
MPM's calendar does not give MUET results dates. If you need a MUET result for UPU, register for the earliest session you can.
If your STPM results disappoint: re-check, patch or retake
A disappointing slip still leaves several routes, each with its own deadline.
| Option | What it does | When |
|---|---|---|
| Re-check (semakan semula) | MPM re-marks a semester paper you think was under-marked | Five days from each semester's results |
| UPU appeal | Asks UPU for an offer if you received none | Ten days after the main offers (August in 2026) |
| Patching | You resit chosen papers; the better grade is patched onto your original certificate | In 2026: registration 20 to 25 June, papers 27 July to 19 August, results 25 September |
| Full retake | You sit the next STPM's Ulangan 1, Ulangan 2 and Semester 3 papers for a new certificate | Registration 2 to 30 August 2027, in MPM's STPM 2027 calendar |
Patching: resit only the papers that hurt
Patching lets you resit chosen papers of the subjects you took and patch the better subject grade (NGMP) onto your original certificate, which keeps its original year. Registration opens after overall results: for the 2025 cohort it ran from 20 to 25 June 2026, two days after results day, with Semester 1, 2 and 3 papers sat from 27 July to 19 August and results on 25 September 2026.[15] It costs RM120 plus RM50 a paper, can be used only once, in the year your results come out, and your coursework grades carry over from the first attempt. A new certificate, at RM60, is issued only if your grade or PNGK improves.
Mind the timing. Last year's patching results arrived after UPU's main offers in August and after new students began registering on 17 September, and MPM's rules leave it to each university to decide whether to accept patched results. Check with the university before you count on them.
A full retake
The other route is to register again as a private candidate for the next STPM and earn a new certificate dated that year. You sit the Ulangan 1, Ulangan 2 and Semester 3 papers together at the end of the year, and you may carry over your coursework grade or take the written alternative where one exists. MPM's STPM 2027 calendar, still subject to change, gives 2 to 30 August 2027 as the registration window for STPM 2026 candidates.[16] MPM's rules also allow late registration, within a week of the university offers, for candidates who fail to win a place.
Other routes
Private universities and university colleges set their own entry requirements for STPM holders, so ask each one directly. If you are looking abroad, MPM's statements note that Cambridge recognises STPM as equivalent to GCE A Level and that the certificate can be used to apply to universities overseas.
Frequently asked questions
When will STPM 2026 results be released?
MPM has not announced the date. STPM 2025 results came out on Thursday, 18 June 2026, and the three cohorts before got theirs on 24 June 2025, 23 July 2024 and 13 July 2023. Before the pandemic, results came in late February or March: 6 March 2018, 11 March 2019 and 25 February 2020. MPM posted last year's date two days ahead.
What time are STPM results released?
Last year, results opened at 11:30 am on stpm.mpm.edu.my/stpmK and at 11:00 am by SMS to 15888. MPM gives each year's times in its results-day notice.
How do I check STPM results by SMS?
Type STPM, a space, your MyKad number, a space and your angka giliran, then send it to 15888. In 2026 the service opened at 11:00 am on results day, half an hour before the portal.
Do Semester 3 results come out before the overall results?
They did last year: Semester 3 results came out on 19 May 2026 and the overall results on 18 June 2026. The five-day window to request a Semester 3 re-check opens when the Semester 3 results are released, not on overall results day.
How is the STPM CGPA (PNGK) calculated?
Add the grade values of your four best subjects, Pengajian Am included, and divide by four. Grade values run from 4.00 for an A to 0.00 for an F, so B+, B, A- and A give (3.33 + 3.00 + 3.67 + 4.00) ÷ 4 = 3.50.
What PNGK do I need for UPU?
UPU's general requirement is a PNGK of at least 2.00 with at least a C in three subjects, including Pengajian Am, together with MUET Band 1.0, an SPM credit in Bahasa Melayu and a pass in Sejarah. Applicants are then ranked by merit, which your PNGK drives, and each programme sets its own special requirements.
How much does an STPM re-check cost?
RM50.00 a paper, applied for online at mecea.mpm.edu.my/SS_STPM within five days of that semester's results. MPM gives the outcome within 15 working days of the closing date, and its decision is final. Coursework, written alternatives to coursework and resit papers cannot be re-checked.
Can I resit STPM papers?
Yes, in three ways. During Form 6 you can resit a Semester 1 or Semester 2 paper once, at the end of Semester 3, for RM50 a paper. After results you can patch chosen papers onto your original certificate, once only, or register for the next year's STPM as a private candidate for a new certificate.
When can I download my STPM e-certificate?
On results day, from sijil.mpm.edu.my. MPM's rules say from 3:00 pm; for the 2025 results, its results page said 5:00 pm. The download is free for two years and costs RM20 after that, and a printed certificate costs RM60 including postage.
Should I apply to UPU before my STPM results come out?
In the last cycle you had to: STPM leavers applied from 29 January to 15 May 2026, and the results came on 18 June. UPU has not published its 2027/2028 dates, so read its circular when it appears and apply within its window.
