Every paper ends in a case study
Each of the three papers has two parts: two essays chosen from four, worth 60 marks, and one compulsory case study worth 40. The case study describes a business and asks the student to apply the semester's ideas to it, so an answer that recites the textbook without naming the firm, its figures or its problem leaves marks behind.
Tutors practise case studies the way the paper sets them: read the case for the facts that matter, answer each part with a point, an explanation and evidence from the case, and finish inside the time left after the essays.
Semester 2 has the calculations
The business functions semester brings numbers into the subject. Finance covers financial statements and four families of ratios, liquidity, profitability, gearing and efficiency, as well as cash budgets. A student comfortable with essays but uneasy with numbers often needs the most support here.
Ratios are marked on the formula, the working and the interpretation. A current ratio without a sentence on what it says about the firm's ability to pay its short-term debts earns only part of the marks.
Answering in Bahasa Melayu
The 946 papers are set in Bahasa Melayu only, and the subject has its own terms: nisbah semasa, nisbah segera, bajet tunai, sumber pembiayaan, keusahawanan. A student can learn an idea in English first, but every answer is practised with the Malay terms the marking scheme uses.

Sebuah syarikat mempunyai aset semasa RM120 000, termasuk inventori RM50 000, dan liabiliti semasa RM80 000. Hitung (a) nisbah semasa dan (b) nisbah segera, dan (c) tafsirkan kedudukan kecairan syarikat itu. (A company has current assets of RM120,000, including inventory of RM50,000, and current liabilities of RM80,000. Find the current ratio and the quick ratio, and interpret its liquidity.)
- (a) Current ratio = current assets ÷ current liabilities = RM120,000 ÷ RM80,000 = 1.5 : 1.
- (b) The quick ratio leaves out inventory, which may take time to sell: (RM120,000 − RM50,000) ÷ RM80,000 = RM70,000 ÷ RM80,000 = 0.875 : 1.
- (c) Current assets cover short-term debts 1.5 times, but the quick ratio is below 1, so without selling its inventory the company could not pay all its current liabilities.
- Close with a judgement tied to the case: the company depends on selling its stock to stay liquid, so slow sales would put it under pressure.

Is STPM Pengajian Perniagaan taught in English?

Is Pengajian Perniagaan the same as Perakaunan?
No. Pengajian Perniagaan covers how businesses are run: management, marketing, production, finance, people and ethics, with some ratio work. Perakaunan is accounting itself, from recording transactions to financial statements and costing. Commerce-stream students often take both.
When should Pengajian Perniagaan tuition start?
