For the 2027 Form 1 intake, MARA runs the MRSM IGCSE programme at nine colleges, where students sit Cambridge IGCSE at the end of Form 4 and SPM in Form 5.[1] If your child is in Form 4 and sitting Cambridge's November 2026 series, the IGCSE results come out on Thursday 14 January 2027 at 2:00 pm Malaysia time.[2]

Those two facts answer the questions MRSM families search for most, but the details sit in a MARA PDF and a Cambridge help page written in UK time. This guide brings them together, from what IGCSE is and how MARA chooses students for 2027 to reading the results and what MARA says about fees. Afterkelas is an online tuition school, not part of MARA, so if anything here differs from what your child's MRSM tells you, follow the MRSM.

What is IGCSE?

IGCSE stands for International General Certificate of Secondary Education. Cambridge IGCSE is set and marked by Cambridge International Education, an exam board owned by the University of Cambridge. The board calls it the world's most popular international qualification for 14- to 16-year-olds. Students choose from more than 70 subjects, and each is assessed at the end of the course through written papers and, depending on the subject, oral, coursework or practical components.[3]

Results come as grades from A*, the highest, down to G. Cambridge aligns IGCSE standards with the GCSE taken in England and says leading universities and employers worldwide accept it as evidence of academic ability. MARA describes the Cambridge syllabus as equivalent to the British GCSE and the International GCE O Level, a comparison that comes up again when Malaysian entry rules mention O Level.

What is the MRSM IGCSE programme?

MARA describes its IGCSE programme as a combined curriculum: the national KSSM syllabus, MRSM's own STEM-based curriculum and the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum, plus the personal development, entrepreneurship and soft-skills modules every MRSM runs. Students start on an international curriculum at 13 and leave with two certificates, Cambridge IGCSE and SPM.

MARA's online FAQ calls it the Dual Certification Programme. It adds that students follow the Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum in Forms 1 and 2 and take Cambridge Checkpoint, which MARA describes as a low-stakes diagnostic test, before moving on to the IGCSE course.[4] Put together, the five years look like this:

The five years of the MRSM IGCSE programme
StageWhat happens
Form 1 entrySelection through the PKSK (or the UKKM) and MARA's Ujian Khas. The IGCSE programme takes new students at Form 1 only.
Forms 1 and 2KSSM and MRSM subjects, with the Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum and the Cambridge Checkpoint test
From Form 3Cambridge IGCSE courses (MARA's FAQ calls them the Cambridge Secondary 2 curriculum) alongside KSSM
End of Form 4Cambridge IGCSE exams at the end of the year, the time of Cambridge's November series
Form 5SPM at the end of the year, like every other MRSM student

Which MRSMs offer IGCSE in 2027?

MARA's programme guide for the 2027 Form 1 intake lists nine IGCSE colleges:

MRSMs with the IGCSE programme, Form 1 intake 2027
StateMRSM
MelakaMRSM Alor Gajah
Negeri SembilanMRSM Kuala Klawang
SelangorMRSM Kuala Kubu Bharu
JohorMRSM Johor Bahru
PerakMRSM Parit
KedahMRSM Langkawi
PahangMRSM Tun Abdul Razak, Pekan
SarawakMRSM Kuching
SabahMRSM Kota Kinabalu

The list changes from year to year, so older pages can mislead. MARA's FAQ, written for an earlier intake, names 14 IGCSE colleges. Six of them, MRSM Baling, MRSM Batu Pahat, MRSM Kubang Pasu, MRSM Kuantan, MRSM Serting and MRSM Tumpat, appear under the Premier or Premier STEM-Excellence programme in the 2027 guide, and MRSM Kota Kinabalu has joined the IGCSE list. The 2027 list is for new Form 1 students; if your child is already in the programme at one of those six colleges, ask the college what the change means for their year.

How do students get into an IGCSE MRSM?

For 2027, pupils at KPM schools apply for the special schools and the MRSMs on a single application, and the IGCSE programme takes its students at Form 1. Selection runs in five steps:

How MARA selects IGCSE students (2027 intake)
  1. Apply online, with an IGCSE MRSM as first choice
  2. Sit the PKSK, or the UKKM
  3. Clear the PKSK minimum merit
  4. Sit MARA's Ujian Khas
  5. Offer on merit, with priority for low-income families

Pupils at schools registered with KPM apply through KPM's system (spskt1.moe.gov.my for Form 1) and sit the Pentaksiran Kemasukan Sekolah Khusus (PKSK). Pupils at private schools not registered with KPM apply through MARA's MyMRSM portal instead and sit the Ujian Kecenderungan Kemasukan MRSM (UKKM), which covers Bahasa Melayu, mathematics, science and a personality test.

MARA screens each applicant on their first choice, so a special programme such as IGCSE only counts if it comes first. MARA's own example puts an Ulul Albab MRSM first, a Premier MRSM second and an SMKA third; for IGCSE, the first line would be one of the nine colleges above.[5] Form 1 applicants for 2027 must be born between 2 January 2014 and 1 January 2015, and MARA gives priority to applicants from low-income families who meet its conditions.

The IGCSE programme takes no new students after Form 1 in 2027. MARA's Form 4 intake covers only the Premier and Bitara programmes, and a Form 3 student already in the IGCSE programme may not apply to move to another special school or MRSM.

Offers for 2027Not announced yet. For the 2026 intake, offers could be checked from 26 December 2025
RegistrationNot announced yet. The 2026 intake registered on 13 January 2026

The application and PKSK dates come from the poster KPM and MARA published on 26 June 2026.[6] Offer and registration dates for 2027 have not been announced. Last year, MARA's chairman announced that offers for the 2026 intake could be checked from 26 December 2025 to 13 January 2026, with registration on 13 January.[7]

What the PKSK and the Ujian Khas involve

The PKSK has three sections. Sections A and B are taken online on a computer, with 90 minutes for the two: A measures personal qualities such as emotional and spiritual intelligence, and B is multiple choice on IQ-style reasoning, Bahasa Melayu, English, problem solving in mathematics, science and technology, and general knowledge. Section C is a 45-minute written response of at least 100 words for Form 1 candidates.

The Ujian Khas is MARA's own test for its special programmes. MARA's 2027 documents do not describe its format or give a date; they say only that candidates who clear the PKSK minimum merit and choose a special programme first will be called to sit it. The PKSK, by contrast, has a published format, so it is the part a family can prepare for.

Which IGCSE subjects and exam series do MRSM students sit?

MARA does not publish a subject list for the programme. One subject is on record: in June 2026, MARA reported that two MRSM Kuala Kubu Bharu students had earned Cambridge's Top in the World award for English as a Second Language in the 2025 IGCSE exams.[8] For your child's own subjects and papers, ask the college.

MARA's documents do not name the exam series either. Cambridge releases results twice a year, in August for its June series and in January for its November series, and the end of Form 4 falls in the November series. Cambridge places Malaysia in administrative zone 5, and the zone 5 papers for November 2026 run from 28 September to 12 November 2026.[9]

Malaysian schools enter this series in large numbers. When the November 2025 IGCSE results came out, Cambridge named Malaysia among the countries making the most entries, with Malaysian entries up 4%.[10]

When are MRSM IGCSE results released in January 2027?

Cambridge releases November 2026 IGCSE results on Thursday 14 January 2027 at 06:00 GMT, which is 2:00 pm in Malaysia (MYT, UTC+8), and schools can pass them to candidates straight away. AS and A Level results come a week earlier at the same hour; MRSM IGCSE students do not need that date.

Cambridge adds that certain organisations receive results on different dates and tell their own candidates. Your child's MRSM decides how and when it passes the results on, so its notice is the one that counts on the day.

Why some pages say 1:00 pm

Cambridge's results page gives the time as "06:00 GMT/UTC+1".[11] GMT is UTC+0, and UTC+1 is British Summer Time, which ends on 25 October 2026 and returns on 28 March 2027. On 14 January the UK is on GMT, so 06:00 in London is 2:00 pm in Kuala Lumpur, and Cambridge's help centre gives the time as 06:00 GMT/UTC. Read "UTC+1" literally and you get 1:00 pm.

One o'clock is the right answer in August. The June 2026 IGCSE results came out at 6:00 am British Summer Time on 18 August, which was 1:00 pm in Malaysia.[12] Pages that reuse the August conversion for January are an hour early.

How to check IGCSE results

Cambridge sends results to schools, which pass them on to students. Its advice to students is that the school will say when results are available and how they will arrive: collected at school, or viewed on Cambridge's candidate results website with a password the school provides. Only the school can issue that login, so a student who has lost it should ask the MRSM's exams officer.

Deadline for enquiries about results, made by the schoolFriday, 26 February 2027
Certificates reach schoolsBy the end of March 2027

If a grade looks wrong, only the school can ask Cambridge to review it; Cambridge does not accept requests from candidates or parents. After an enquiry the subject grade stays the same or goes up, although the marks for single papers can move either way, and Cambridge normally replies within 30 days.[13] Priority results are for students who need grades at a university on results day: Cambridge sends a statement straight to the institution, and guarantees results-day dispatch for forms received by 19 December 2026.[14]

What IGCSE grades mean

What appears on a Cambridge IGCSE statement of results
On the statementMeaning
A*The highest grade
A, B, C, D, E, F, GThe other grades, in order; G is the lowest grade awarded
UngradedBelow the standard for grade G. It appears on the statement of results but not on the certificate
Q (PENDING)The result is not ready yet
X (NO RESULT)No result has been issued for the subject

Malaysian candidates are graded A* to G. Cambridge offers its 9 to 1 scale only to schools in administrative zone 3, and Malaysia is in zone 5.[15]

The top grade within reach depends on the tier a student is entered for. In Mathematics (0580), for example, candidates on the Core papers can reach grade C at best, while candidates on the Extended papers are eligible for A* to E, so ask which tier your child is entered for.[16]

Can IGCSE results be used for scholarships and university entry?

An MRSM student has IGCSE results in January of Form 5, months before SPM, but most Malaysian routes still ask for SPM. Here is what some of them require:

Where IGCSE counts, and where SPM is needed
RouteWhat it asks for
Public university Asasi through UPU (2026/2027 rules)SPM with at least five credits, including Bahasa Melayu, and a pass in Sejarah
MARA Young Talent Development Programme (YTP)SPM only. MARA's 2024 FAQ says IGCSE results cannot be used
Khazanah Global Scholarship, A Level at Kolej Yayasan UEMAt least 8As in the latest SPM, or at least 8As in the latest IGCSE
Foundation programmes under the MQA standardFive SPM credits, or an O Level pass with at least a C in five subjects
Universities abroadEach sets its own rules. Cambridge can send results to them on results day and verify results later

The public university rule comes from UPU's 2026/2027 circular for SPM leavers.[17] Asked whether IGCSE results could be used for MARA's own YTP scholarship, its 2024 FAQ answered no, only SPM.[18] Khazanah accepts 8As from either exam, and asks for A or A+ in Bahasa Melayu, English, History and Mathematics only from SPM candidates.[19]

The foundation rule is the minimum entry requirement under the MQA standard, which names O Level, the qualification MARA treats as equivalent to IGCSE, alongside SPM.[20] For universities abroad, Cambridge can verify a student's results directly with the institution, and for UK study it issues a Certifying Statement for CEFR that shows English level for a visa or university application.

How much does the MRSM IGCSE programme cost?

MARA's 2027 admission documents do not list any fee for the IGCSE programme, and its online FAQ answers the question about the IGCSE registration fee with "Please refer to the registration handbook". Some websites quote a per-subject Cambridge exam fee, but no such figure appears in MARA's current documents, so ask the college for the amount that applies to your child's year.

MARA does help low-income families with MRSM costs. Its 2027 programme guide lists BUDI (Program Bantuan Untuk Pendidikan) for eligible B40 students, a monthly allowance called Wang Saku and an exemption from the Wang Caruman contribution, each subject to conditions. The guide does not say whether this support covers Cambridge exam fees.

Do MRSM IGCSE students still sit SPM?

Yes. The programme leads to both certificates, and SPM is the one UPU and MARA's YTP use, as the table above shows. A strong IGCSE result in Form 4 still leaves a full SPM year in Form 5.

This year's Form 5 IGCSE students, who sat IGCSE at the end of Form 4 in 2025, are now heading into SPM 2026: the speaking tests start on 26 October and the written papers run from 23 November to 17 December. Our SPM 2026 timetable lists every paper.

IGCSE MRSMs for 2027

If your child applied by 14 August, check the PKSK centre before the test, which runs from 12 to 22 October 2026. If an IGCSE MRSM was the first choice and the PKSK result clears MARA's minimum merit, MARA will call your child for the Ujian Khas. Offers for 2027 have not been announced; last year they could be checked from 26 December.

Frequently asked questions

Which MRSMs offer the IGCSE programme in 2027?

For the 2027 Form 1 intake, MARA lists nine: MRSM Alor Gajah, MRSM Kuala Klawang, MRSM Kuala Kubu Bharu, MRSM Johor Bahru, MRSM Parit, MRSM Langkawi, MRSM Tun Abdul Razak (Pekan), MRSM Kuching and MRSM Kota Kinabalu.

When will MRSM IGCSE results come out?

Students who sit Cambridge's November 2026 series get their IGCSE results on Thursday 14 January 2027 at 06:00 GMT, which is 2:00 pm in Malaysia. Results go to the MRSM, which tells students how it will pass them on.

Are IGCSE results released at 1:00 pm or 2:00 pm Malaysia time?

In January it is 2:00 pm, because the UK is on GMT and the release is at 06:00 GMT. In August, when the UK is on British Summer Time, the same 6:00 am release is 1:00 pm in Malaysia. Cambridge's results page labels the time GMT/UTC+1, which is why some pages give 1:00 pm for January.

Do MRSM IGCSE students still sit SPM?

Yes. MARA's programme leads to two certificates: Cambridge IGCSE at the end of Form 4 and SPM in Form 5. SPM is what UPU uses for public university places and what MARA's YTP scholarship uses.

Can my child join the MRSM IGCSE programme in Form 4?

Not in 2027. MARA lists the IGCSE programme for the Form 1 intake only; its Form 4 intake covers the Premier and Bitara programmes.

What is the Ujian Khas for the MRSM IGCSE programme?

It is the special test MARA sets for its special programmes, IGCSE included. Only applicants who clear the PKSK minimum merit and put a special-programme MRSM as their first choice are called to sit it. MARA's 2027 documents do not describe its format or give a date.

How much does the MRSM IGCSE programme cost?

MARA's 2027 admission documents do not list an IGCSE fee, and its FAQ refers parents to the registration handbook. MARA offers B40 families help with MRSM costs through BUDI, a monthly allowance and an exemption from Wang Caruman, subject to conditions.

How do MRSM students check their IGCSE results?

Through the college. Cambridge releases results to schools, and the school decides how students receive them: collected at school, or viewed on Cambridge's candidate results website with login details that only the school can issue.

Can IGCSE results be used for MARA scholarships?

Not for MARA's Young Talent Development Programme, whose 2024 FAQ says only SPM results count. Some other scholarships accept IGCSE: Khazanah's Global Scholarship for A Level asks for at least 8As in the latest SPM or the latest IGCSE.

What does A* mean in IGCSE?

A* is the highest IGCSE grade. Grades run from A* to G, and a performance below grade G is reported as Ungraded on the statement of results, though not on the certificate.
