MUET 2027 runs in three sessions, and registration for the first opens at 10:00 am on Tuesday 1 December 2026. Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia (MPM), the Malaysian Examinations Council, has published all the MUET 2027 dates. Session 1 registration closes at 11:30 pm on Monday 11 January 2027. Its speaking tests run from 31 March to 8 April, and the written test (Reading, Writing and Listening) is on Saturday 10 April 2027.[1]

Sessions 2 and 3 follow in July and October, each with its own registration window. This guide sets out every date, the fee, how to register through school or as a private candidate, the faster MUET on Demand route, the bands universities ask for, and which session suits you. MPM does not print results dates in its calendar and announces each one nearer the time, so the results section gives the dates from recent sessions, marked as such. All times are Malaysia time (MYT, UTC+8).

Afterkelas is an online tuition company, not part of MPM. If your school or your MUET/D registration slip gives a different day from this page, follow the slip.

MUET 2027 dates for all three sessions

In every session, the written test falls on a Saturday, after six days of speaking tests.

What the test days look like

The three written papers are taken back to back on the Saturday. The speaking test comes earlier, on one of the six weekdays listed, and MPM chooses your day and sitting. Both appear on your MUET/D slip, which MPM releases about six weeks before the speaking tests begin. MPM has not issued the 2027 timetable yet; this is how the day ran in 2026.

The MUET test day in 2026
PaperTime in 2026Length
Reading (800/3)8:00 to 9:15 am75 minutes
Writing (800/4)10:00 to 11:15 am75 minutes
Listening (800/1)12:00 to 12:50 pm50 minutes
Speaking (800/2)8:00 am or 11:30 am on your speaking day30 minutes

In 2026, candidates had to be in the hall by 7:30 am on written test day, and in the quarantine room 30 minutes before their speaking sitting. Bring your MyKad or passport and your printed MUET/D slip, and leave your phone and smart watch outside.[2]

The speaking test is taken in groups of two to four. Each candidate gives a two-minute presentation after two minutes of preparation, then the group discusses a question for 8 to 12 minutes after three minutes of preparation.[3] It is a different format from the paired SPM English speaking test, which our SPM speaking test guide covers.

When does MUET 2027 registration open and close?

Session 1 registration opens at 10:00 am on Tuesday 1 December 2026 and closes at 11:30 pm on Monday 11 January 2027. For SPM 2026 candidates, it opens during SPM itself: the written papers run until Thursday 17 December, as our SPM 2026 timetable shows. The window lasts six weeks, but MPM warns that seats for private candidates are limited and go first come, first served, so register in the first days rather than the last.

Missed the deadline? MPM's current rules open late payment for five days after registration closes, with an RM70 charge on top of the fee. Unpaid registrations are then cancelled, and no MUET/D slip is issued.[5]

The registration windows also overlap other sessions in a way worth planning around. Session 2 registration closes on 23 April 2027, before Session 1 results can be expected: in 2026, Session 1 results came out on 24 June. Session 3 registration, from 22 June to 25 July 2027, covers the date Session 1 results appeared in 2026, so if they arrive on a similar date, you will see your Session 1 band before deciding on October.

MUET 2027 fees and how to pay

MPM confirmed the Session 1 fee in its notice of 21 September 2026: RM150 for Malaysian citizens and RM350 for other candidates. The other charges come from MPM's current guides.

Private candidates pay online, by FPX or credit card, as the last step of registration, and they are not allowed to buy a PIN MEC at a BSN counter. School and institution candidates, such as Form Six and matriculation students, are registered and paid for through MPM's school system (muet.mpm.edu.my) by their school's MUET exam secretary or their institution's MUET coordinator.[6]

How to register for MUET 2027

There are no entry conditions: anyone can sit MUET. How you register depends on where you study.

Form Six, matriculation and Asasi students

In Form Six, your school's exam secretary (Setiausaha Peperiksaan) registers you. Matriculation colleges and some Asasi centres register their students through a MUET coordinator: for Session 3 of 2026, MPM required KPM matriculation and UiTM Dengkil Asasi candidates to register that way.[7] Ask which session your school or college has chosen, and check your name and MyKad number on the MUET/PP statement before registration closes, while corrections are still free.

Private candidates

Everyone else, including SPM leavers and working adults, registers on MPM's private candidate site, muetj3.mpm.edu.my.

Registering as a private candidate
  1. Open the site from 10:00 am on 1 December
  2. Choose a test centre and enter your details as on your MyKad
  3. Pay RM150 by FPX or card
  4. Save the MUET/PP statement and join the Telegram channel

Keep the MUET/PP statement as a PDF: without it, MPM treats the registration as incomplete. Your State Education Department (JPN) confirms the test centre and can move you to another one. About six weeks before the speaking tests, download and print your MUET/D slip from MPM's portal (mecea.mpm.edu.my/MUETD). It shows your index number, centre, day and time, and it is your ticket on both test days. MPM posts news for private candidates on the Telegram channel named on your MUET/PP and on its portal, never by SMS or email.

MUET on Demand (MoD) and MUET Express in 2027

MUET on Demand is the same test, run by MPM on more dates. MPM added it in June 2018, sets it to the same standard and format as the regular sessions, reports it in the same bands, and runs it on computer or on paper. All four papers are taken on one day, and in most sittings you can choose an online speaking test instead of a face-to-face one.[8] MUET Express (MeX) works the same way but costs more, and its results come within two working days.[9]

MPM has not yet published the 2027 calendar for MoD or MeX. In 2026, each MoD sitting had a registration window of about two weeks, closing three to nine weeks before the test, and registration opened at 10:00 am on the first day, online only. Seats depend on what each test centre has left. The last 2026 MoD sittings are on 14 November (registration 21 September to 2 October), 15 November (5 to 16 October) and 5 December (26 October to 6 November 2026).

Who needs MUET, and which band?

MUET is an entry requirement for degrees at Malaysia's public universities. The rules of UPU, the central application system for those universities, ask applicants for the 2026/2027 intake from STPM, matriculation, Asasi, STAM and diploma routes for at least Band 1.0, from a MUET taken in Session 1 of 2021 or later and still within its five-year validity. UPU then ranks eligible STPM, matriculation and Asasi applicants on merit, 90% from academic results and 10% from co-curriculum.[10]

A few groups have other options. Applicants with A-Level, the IB Diploma, AUSMAT, SAM or the Canadian Pre-University (UPU categories F1, F2 and F7) may use IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, a Cambridge English qualification or ELS instead, where the programme and university allow it. Holders of a DVM, polytechnic or community college diploma are exempt from MUET as a general requirement at UniMAP, UMPSA, UTHM and UTeM. SPM leavers applying through UPU for an Asasi or diploma place do not need MUET at that stage, because the 2026/2027 circular for SPM leavers does not ask for it.

Band 1.0 is only the floor. Each programme sets its own minimum in its special requirements (syarat khas), and competitive programmes ask for far more:

Minimum MUET band for STPM and matriculation applicants, 2026/2027 intake: examples
ProgrammeMinimum band, by university
Medicine4.0 at UM and UKM; 3.5 at UniSZA; 3.0 at USM, UPM, UiTM, UNIMAS, UMS and UPNM
Dentistry4.0 at UM and UKM; 3.5 at USM; 3.0 at UiTM and USIM
Pharmacy3.0 at UM, UKM, USM, UiTM and UniSZA
Law4.5 at IIUM; 4.0 at UM, UKM, UiTM, UUM and UniSZA
Accounting4.0 at UM; 3.5 at IIUM; 3.0 at UTM; 2.0 at UPM, USM, UPSI, UniSZA and UNIMAS

These are the 2026/2027 figures in e-Panduan, the Ministry of Higher Education's guide to UPU programmes, and the programmes we checked ask matriculation applicants for the same band as STPM applicants.[11] The 2027/2028 requirements appear when UPU applications open (the 2026 cycle opened on 29 January). Check the entry for your exact programme before you choose a session.

MUET bands and CEFR levels

MUET reports an aggregated score out of 360, with each of the four papers worth a quarter, and turns it into a band aligned with the CEFR.[12]

MUET bands and aggregated scores by CEFR level
CEFR levelMUET band (aggregated score out of 360)
C1+Band 5+ (331 to 360)
C1Band 5.0 (294 to 330)
B2Band 4.5 (258 to 293) and Band 4.0 (211 to 257)
B1Band 3.5 (164 to 210) and Band 3.0 (123 to 163)
A2Band 2.5 (82 to 122), Band 2.0 (36 to 81) and Band 1.0 (1 to 35)

How long is a MUET result valid?

A MUET result is valid for five years from the date the results are released, and UPU applies the same rule. A Session 1 2026 result, released on 24 June 2026, can be used until June 2031. Download your e-certificate from MPM's e-Sijil system (sijil.mpm.edu.my) soon after results day: it is free for two years and costs RM20 after that. MPM posts a paper certificate only if you order one, for RM60.

When will MUET 2027 results be released?

MPM has not announced results dates for any 2027 session. It names each date a few days ahead on its portal and social media, including the session's Telegram channel. Here is how long recent sessions took.

How long recent MUET results took
SessionWritten testResultsGap
Session 3, 2025Saturday 22 November 2025Tuesday 27 January 202666 days
Session 1, 2026Saturday 25 April 2026Wednesday 24 June 202660 days
Session 2, 2026Saturday 27 June 2026Wednesday 19 August 202653 days
Session 3, 2026Saturday 17 October 2026Not announced yetNot known yet

The gap has run from 53 to 66 days.[13] MUET on Demand results come within 14 working days and MUET Express results within two, so both are faster when a deadline is close.

How to check your result and print the slip

On results day
  1. Check your band from 10:00 am
  2. Download and print the result slip
  3. Download the e-certificate from 3:00 pm
  4. Decide on a re-check within five days

Results open at 10:00 am on MPM's results page (mecea.mpm.edu.my/MUETR) and by SMS: send MUET RESULT followed by your MyKad number to 15888. The result slip downloads from the same page. If you think your band is wrong, a re-check costs RM90 and must be filed in the window MPM sets, which in 2026 ran for five days from results day (19 to 23 August for Session 2). The outcome can be checked 20 days after the window closes, and if your band changes, MPM updates your result and you can download the updated e-certificate.

What if you miss a MUET session?

MPM gives a band only to candidates who sit all four papers, so missing one day costs the whole session.

  • Miss any paper, the speaking test included, and MPM records Band Nil for that session.[14]
  • The fee is not refunded unless you have a prolonged illness confirmed by a government medical officer, have taken up a place at a public or private university, or give another reason MPM accepts. Claims go to MPM in writing within 30 days of the test ending.
  • MPM does not normally allow postponements. Your school or JPN can advise you on an appeal.
  • Moving your speaking day needs MPM's approval and costs RM50; school candidates apply through their exam secretary.
  • There is no waiting period before you try again: register for the next session, or for an MoD or MeX sitting if you need a result sooner.[15]

how long a result stays valid

You do not need MUET to start Form Six, matriculation or an Asasi programme: students there sit it while they study, registered by their school or college. In 2026, MPM gave KPM matriculation candidates their own Session 3 timetable in October. Sitting earlier as a private candidate is optional. A Session 1 2027 result stays valid for five years from its results date, which covers a degree application in 2028 or 2029. Registration opens on 1 December while SPM is still running, and seats for private candidates go first come, first served.

Frequently asked questions

When is MUET 2027?

MUET 2027 has three sessions. Session 1 has speaking tests from 31 March to 8 April and the written test on Saturday 10 April 2027. Session 2 has speaking tests from 13 to 21 July and the written test on Saturday 24 July. Session 3 has speaking tests from 12 to 20 October and the written test on Saturday 23 October 2027. MPM sets your speaking day on your MUET/D slip.

When does MUET 2027 registration open?

Session 1 registration runs from 10:00 am on Tuesday 1 December 2026 to 11:30 pm on Monday 11 January 2027. Session 2 registration runs from 2 March to 23 April 2027, and Session 3 from 22 June to 25 July 2027.

How much is the MUET fee in 2027?

RM150 for Malaysian citizens and RM350 for other candidates, paid online when you register. MUET on Demand costs RM250 and MUET Express RM800 for Malaysians. Late payment, allowed for five days after registration closes, adds RM70.

How do I register for MUET as a private candidate?

Register online at muetj3.mpm.edu.my while the window is open: choose a state and test centre, enter your details, pay by FPX or card, and download your MUET/PP registration statement. Seats are limited and go first come, first served. Form Six and matriculation students register through their school or college instead.

When will MUET 2027 results come out?

MPM has not announced them. It names each results date a few days ahead on its portal, its social media pages and the session's Telegram channel. In 2026, Session 1 results came out on 24 June and Session 2 results on 19 August.

How long does it take to get MUET results?

In the last three regular sessions, results came 53 to 66 days after the written test. MUET on Demand results come within 14 working days and MUET Express results within two working days.

How long is a MUET result valid?

Five years from the date the results are released. UPU applies the same rule, so check that your result will still be valid when you apply.

What MUET band do I need for university?

UPU's general requirement is Band 1.0, but each programme sets its own minimum. For the 2026/2027 intake, Law asked for Band 4.0 at UM, UKM and UiTM and Band 4.5 at IIUM, and Medicine asked for Band 3.0 at most universities and Band 4.0 at UM and UKM.

What happens if I miss the MUET speaking test?

MPM gives a band only to candidates who sit all four papers. Missing the speaking test, or any written paper, means Band Nil for that session, and the fee is refunded only in limited cases, such as a prolonged illness confirmed by a government medical officer.

Is there MUET on Demand in 2027?

MPM has not yet published the 2027 MUET on Demand calendar. In 2026 it ran 20 sittings, with all four papers on one day, a fee of RM250 for Malaysians and results within 14 working days.
