Edexcel International A Level Accounting Tuition Online (IAL)
Pearson Edexcel IAL Accounting across both units: the accounting system and costing, then corporate and management accounting.
Afterkelas teaches Pearson Edexcel International A Level Accounting online to pre-university students in Malaysia. Tutors teach live in English, 1-to-1 or in small groups, across both units, from double entry and control to company accounts and management decisions.
What Edexcel IAL Accounting covers
The two units and the main areas each one covers.
Unit 1: The Accounting System and Costing
4 topics- Double-entry bookkeeping and the accounting cycle
- Control procedures: trial balance, control accounts, bank reconciliation, correction of errors
- Financial statements of sole traders and partnerships
- Costing, including marginal and absorption costing
Unit 2: Corporate and Management Accounting
5 topics- Limited company accounts
- Analysis and interpretation of financial statements
- Budgeting and budgetary control
- Capital investment appraisal
- Decision-making with accounting information
From bookkeeping to decisions
Unit 1 rests on double entry and the control procedures that check it. Students who are unsure of the direction of each entry struggle with everything built on top, so tutors start there, then move to financial statements and costing.
Unit 2 turns to companies and to using accounting information for decisions: budgets, investment appraisal and the analysis of financial statements. The calculations earn part of the marks, and the advice with its non-financial factors earns the rest.
Where marks are lost
Long financial statements lose marks to adjustments that change two figures at once and to layouts with missing headings or subtotals. Tutors build each part separately and then practise full statements under time.
Evaluation questions lose marks when the recommendation has no reasons, or the reasons ignore the figures just calculated. Students practise a short structure: the result, what it means, the other factors, and a decision.
Who teaches IAL Accounting
Tutors are university students and graduates with strong accounting results, screened before they teach, and matched to the units and series the student is entered for. An academic advisor asks for a recent test and the unit schedule.
A question, worked through
A break-even and margin of safety question of the kind Unit 1 costing sets. Contribution per unit does most of the work.
Question
A product sells for $40 a unit, with variable costs of $24 a unit and fixed costs of $48,000 a year. (a) Calculate the break-even point in units. (b) If the business expects to sell 4,000 units, calculate the margin of safety in units and as a percentage of expected sales.
- Contribution per unit = $40 − $24 = $16.
- Break-even point = fixed costs ÷ contribution per unit = $48,000 ÷ $16 = 3,000 units.
- Margin of safety = expected sales − break-even sales = 4,000 − 3,000 = 1,000 units.
- As a percentage of expected sales: 1,000 ÷ 4,000 × 100% = 25%.
Answer (a) 3,000 units. (b) 1,000 units, or 25% of expected sales.
Frequently asked questions
Does my child need accounting before IAL?
It helps but is not required. Unit 1 starts from the accounting system, and students new to the subject spend more early time on double entry and layouts.
Should my child resit Unit 1 before sitting Unit 2?
Sometimes. Unit 2 assumes Unit 1 is secure, so a weak Unit 1 result is worth discussing with the advisor before planning the next series.
How is it different from Cambridge 9706?
The content overlaps, but Edexcel uses two units sat across series with resits, while Cambridge examines through four papers at the end of the AS and the A Level.
How much does Edexcel IAL Accounting tuition cost?
The fee depends on the format (1-to-1 or a small group), how many classes a week and the tutor, so there is no single figure. Send an academic advisor the units on the student's entry, the series and any unit results so far on WhatsApp, and you will get the current packages and a quote, usually within one working day.
