Edexcel International A Level Business Tuition Online (IAL)

Pearson Edexcel IAL Business across all four units, with answers applied to the business in the question and decisions that are justified.

Afterkelas teaches Pearson Edexcel International A Level Business online to pre-university students in Malaysia. Tutors teach live in English, 1-to-1 or in small groups, unit by unit, from marketing and people to strategy and global business.

What Edexcel IAL Business covers

The four units in the order most students sit them.

Units

4 topics
  1. Unit 1 (WBS11): Marketing and People
  2. Unit 2 (WBS12): Managing Business Activities
  3. Unit 3 (WBS13): Business Decisions and Strategy
  4. Unit 4 (WBS14): Global Business

Application, analysis and evaluation

IAL Business questions come with a business context, and the marks reward using it. An answer about motivation that never mentions the firm in the extract, its size, workforce or market, stays in the lower levels however well it explains the theory.

The longer answers ask students to assess or evaluate, which means weighing more than one factor and reaching a justified judgement about what the business should do. Tutors teach a structure for this and mark practice answers against the levels.

Calculations and strategy

Each unit includes calculations: price elasticity, break-even, ratios, investment appraisal and percentage changes. They are short and standard, and they often feed the evaluation that follows.

Units 3 and 4 move to strategy and global business: growth, change, international markets and the factors that affect multinationals. These units reward reading widely about real businesses, and tutors bring in current examples to practise with.

Who teaches IAL Business

Tutors are university students and graduates with strong business or economics results, screened before they teach, and matched to the units and series the student is entered for. An academic advisor asks for a recent answer and the unit schedule.

A question, worked through

A Unit 1-style price elasticity question with the decision it informs. The calculation is quick; the comment on revenue is where the marks continue.

Question

A firm raises the price of its product from $20 to $22, and sales fall from 5,000 to 4,000 units a month. (a) Calculate the price elasticity of demand. (b) Assess whether the price rise was a good decision.

  1. Percentage change in quantity demanded: (4,000 − 5,000) ÷ 5,000 × 100% = −20%.
  2. Percentage change in price: (22 − 20) ÷ 20 × 100% = +10%.
  3. PED = −20% ÷ +10% = −2, so demand is price elastic.
  4. Revenue falls from $20 × 5,000 = $100,000 to $22 × 4,000 = $88,000. The rise looks poor, unless lower volumes cut costs enough to raise profit, or the firm wanted to reposition the product as premium.

Answer (a) −2, price elastic. (b) Revenue fell by $12,000, so the rise was probably a poor decision unless it cut costs or served a wider strategy.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my child lose marks on long answers?

Usually because the answer explains well but does not use the business context, or ends without a justified judgement. Both improve quickly with marked practice and a clear structure.

Should my child resit a unit?

If one unit is well below the others and there is time before the next series, often yes, since the best result counts.

How is it different from Cambridge 9609?

The content overlaps, but Edexcel uses four units sat across series with resits, while Cambridge examines through four papers, including a case study and a strategy paper, at the end of each stage.

How much does Edexcel IAL Business tuition cost?

The fee depends on the format (1-to-1 or a small group), how many classes a week and the tutor, so there is no single figure. Send an academic advisor the units on the student's entry, the series and a recent answer on WhatsApp, and you will get the current packages and a quote, usually within one working day.
