Matriculation Physics Tuition Online (SP015, SP025)
Physics 1 and Physics 2 for the matriculation science stream: mechanics and thermal physics in Semester I, electricity, optics and modern physics in Semester II.
Afterkelas teaches Matriculation Physics online to science-stream students at the matriculation colleges, for SP015 in Semester I and SP025 in Semester II. University tutors run live classes, 1-to-1 or in small groups, in English or Bahasa Melayu.

Mechanics first, then the rest of physics
SP015 is mostly mechanics: kinematics, momentum, forces, energy, circular motion, gravitation and the rotation of rigid bodies, followed by oscillations, waves, the deformation of solids and the thermal chapters. SP025 covers electricity and magnetism, then optics and the quantum and nuclear chapters.
Rotation of a rigid body and simple harmonic motion are common sticking points in Semester I, as is electromagnetic induction in Semester II. Tutors slow down on these, with more diagrams and more worked problems.
Where marks are lost
Calculations lose marks to units, significant figures and vector directions; explanations lose marks by being vague. A structured PSPM question marks each step, so tutors drill a fixed layout: the equation first, then the substitution, then the answer with its unit.
Forces and rotation questions start with a free-body diagram, and a missing force spoils every line after it. Students learn to draw the diagram before writing an equation.
Practical work
Practical tests and lab reports are part of continuous assessment, which carries 40 percent of the course grade. Tutors can explain the physics of an experiment, the graph and the treatment of uncertainties, but the report is the student's own work.
A question, worked through
A Semester I projectile question from the kinematics chapter. Splitting the motion into horizontal and vertical parts is the step that carries the marks.
Question
A ball is thrown horizontally at 15 m s⁻¹ from the top of a cliff 20 m high. Find (a) the time it takes to reach the ground and (b) how far from the foot of the cliff it lands. Take g = 9.81 m s⁻² and ignore air resistance.
- The vertical motion starts from rest: s = ½gt², so 20 = ½ × 9.81 × t².
- t² = 40 ÷ 9.81 = 4.077, so t = 2.02 s.
- The horizontal velocity stays at 15 m s⁻¹, since no horizontal force acts.
- Horizontal distance = 15 × 2.02 = 30.3 m.
Answer (a) 2.02 s. (b) 30.3 m from the foot of the cliff.
Frequently asked questions
Is SP015 harder than SPM Physics?
It is more mathematical and covers more ground, with rotation of rigid bodies, gravitation and thermodynamics in the first semester. A student with a solid SPM Physics base and comfortable algebra adapts faster.
Is Physics taught in English in Matriculation?
Yes. Physics is taught and examined in English. Tutors can explain in Bahasa Melayu where that helps, then practise answers in the English terms the PSPM uses.
When should Matriculation Physics tuition start?
In the first weeks of Semester I, since the mechanics chapters come first and the rest of SP015 builds on them.
How much does Matriculation Physics tuition cost?
The fee depends on the format (1-to-1 or a small group), how many classes a week and the tutor, so there is no single figure. Send an academic advisor the semester, the college and the latest assessment results on WhatsApp, and you will get the current packages and a quote, usually within one working day.
