Edexcel IGCSE Tuition Online in Malaysia (Pearson International GCSE)
Pearson Edexcel International GCSE classes planned against the specification on the entry, graded 9 to 1.
Afterkelas teaches the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE online to students at international and private schools in Malaysia. Tutors matched to the specification on the exam entry, from Mathematics A (4MA1) to Physics (4PH1), teach live in English, 1-to-1 or in small groups.
Edexcel International GCSE subjects we teach
Each linked subject has its own page with the specification content, the papers and a worked question. Pearson's codes start with a 4: 4MA1 is Mathematics A and 4PH1 is Physics. A school that calls its course "IGCSE" may be running this qualification or the Cambridge one, so the code on the entry is the first thing the advisor asks for.
Pearson Edexcel Mathematics A at Foundation or Higher, two calculator papers marked for method as much as for answers.
Edexcel IGCSE Further Pure Maths
Pearson Edexcel Further Pure Mathematics: logarithms, series, vectors, calculus and trigonometry, a step towards A Level.
Pearson Edexcel Physics across all eight topics, with the equations, explanations and practical questions inside the written papers.
Pearson Edexcel Chemistry from atomic structure to organic chemistry, with the equations and mole calculations most marks depend on.
Pearson Edexcel Biology across all five topic areas, taught for the precise explanations and practical questions the papers mark.
Edexcel IGCSE English Language A
Pearson Edexcel English Language A: the anthology texts, language analysis, and transactional and imaginative writing.
Pearson Edexcel Economics: microeconomics and business economics on Paper 1, macroeconomics and the global economy on Paper 2.
Pearson Edexcel Business, with every topic applied to a small business on Paper 1 and a large one on Paper 2.
Pearson Edexcel Accounting, from bookkeeping and control processes to financial statements and year-end adjustments.
Edexcel IGCSE Computer Science
Pearson Edexcel Computer Science: the principles paper, and the three-hour on-screen programming paper that half the grade depends on.
How 9 to 1 grading works
Pearson grades the International GCSE from 9 down to 1. A 9 sits above the old A*, a 7 lines up with the bottom of the old A, and a 4 with the bottom of the old C. Universities and sixth-form colleges in Malaysia read the numbers alongside A* to G grades without trouble, but students and parents used to letters often misjudge how close a 6 is to a 7.
The grades are set from the marks after each series, so the boundaries move a little from one year to the next. Tutors work from the mark the student needs rather than a target grade alone, since "get 75% on Paper 1" is a plan and "get a 7" is a wish.
Written papers instead of a practical exam
The Edexcel sciences have no separate practical paper. Practical skills are examined inside the written papers through the specification's practical investigations, so a student can be asked to plan a method, read a results table or explain a source of error in the middle of a theory paper. Students who skipped the experiments at school lose marks here without seeing it coming.
In Physics, Chemistry and Biology the full qualification is two papers, the second shorter than the first. Students sitting the Science Double Award take only the first paper in each science, which is worth knowing before the class plan assumes the second.
How Edexcel IGCSE classes are planned
The advisor asks for the specification code, the tier for Mathematics and the series the student will sit. The tutor follows the school's order through the specification, sets questions from Pearson past papers on each topic, and marks them against the published mark schemes.
Mathematics A has a Foundation and a Higher tier. Foundation can award grades 5 to 1 and Higher 9 to 4, with a 3 allowed on Higher for a student who just misses a 4. A student aiming for a 6 or above needs Higher, and tutors cover the Higher-only algebra early for anyone near the line.
A question, worked through
A question in the style of Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A, Higher tier, solving a linear and a quadratic equation together. Substitution turns two equations into one.
Question
Solve the simultaneous equations y = x + 1 and x² + y² = 25.
- Substitute y = x + 1 into the second equation: x² + (x + 1)² = 25.
- Expand and simplify: x² + x² + 2x + 1 = 25, so 2x² + 2x − 24 = 0, which is x² + x − 12 = 0.
- Factorise: (x + 4)(x − 3) = 0, so x = −4 or x = 3.
- Find each y from y = x + 1: when x = 3, y = 4; when x = −4, y = −3. Pair them correctly, since mixing the pairs loses the final mark.
Answer x = 3, y = 4, or x = −4, y = −3.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Edexcel International GCSE the same as Cambridge IGCSE?
Both are international GCSEs taken in English, but they come from different boards with different specifications, papers and grading. Pearson Edexcel grades 9 to 1 and has no separate science practical paper; Cambridge grades A* to G and sets Core and Extended papers. The tutor is matched to the board on the entry.
What does a grade 7 mean?
A 7 lines up with the bottom of the old A grade, and an 8 or 9 sits above it, with 9 above the old A*. A 4 is the standard pass, aligned with the bottom of the old C.
Should my child take Foundation or Higher in Mathematics A?
Higher, if they are aiming for grade 6 or above, because Foundation stops at 5. The school makes the entry; tuition can cover the Higher-only topics before it is confirmed.
Is Further Pure Mathematics worth taking?
For a student heading towards A Level Mathematics, Physics or Engineering, usually yes. It goes further into algebra, calculus and trigonometry than Mathematics A, and students who take it find the first year of A Level noticeably easier.
How much does Edexcel IGCSE tuition cost?
The fee depends on the format (1-to-1 or a small group), how many classes a week and the tutor, so there is no single figure. Send an academic advisor the subjects, the specification codes and the exam series on WhatsApp, and you will get the current packages and a quote, usually within one working day.
