Edexcel IGCSE Computer Science Tuition Online (4CP0)
Pearson Edexcel Computer Science: the principles paper, and the three-hour on-screen programming paper that half the grade depends on.
Afterkelas teaches Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Computer Science (4CP0) online to students at international and private schools in Malaysia. Tutors matched to the specification teach live in English, 1-to-1 or in small groups, from algorithms and data to programming under exam conditions.
What Edexcel IGCSE Computer Science covers
The six topics of the 4CP0 specification. Paper 2 concentrates on problem solving and programming, at a computer.

The on-screen programming paper
Half the grade comes from Paper 2, a three-hour paper sat at a computer, in which students write, test and correct programs. It rewards fluency more than knowledge: a student who has written many small programs reads a task, plans it and writes working code steadily, while a student who has only read about programming runs out of time.
Tutors build that fluency with short programming tasks in every class, then longer timed practice that mirrors the paper: reading the requirements carefully, testing each part, and leaving time to check the program meets every requirement.
The principles paper
Paper 1 covers the theory: algorithms, data representation, computer hardware and software, networks and the internet, and the wider impact of computing. The marks go to precise answers and to tracing algorithms accurately, including sorting and searching algorithms that students are expected to know.
Who teaches Edexcel IGCSE Computer Science
Tutors are university students and graduates, screened before they teach, and matched to the 4CP0 specification and exam series. Classes use the programming language the school teaches, most often Python.
A question, worked through
A 4CP0-style algorithm question on the bubble sort. Writing the list after every comparison keeps the trace accurate.
Question
Show the result of the first pass of a bubble sort, in ascending order, on the list [5, 2, 9, 1, 6]. How many swaps are made?
- Compare 5 and 2: out of order, swap. The list is now [2, 5, 9, 1, 6].
- Compare 5 and 9: in order, no swap.
- Compare 9 and 1: swap, giving [2, 5, 1, 9, 6]. Compare 9 and 6: swap, giving [2, 5, 1, 6, 9].
- The largest value, 9, has moved to the end, which is what one pass guarantees. Three swaps were made.
Answer After the first pass the list is [2, 5, 1, 6, 9], with 3 swaps.
Frequently asked questions
What is the on-screen programming paper like?
A three-hour paper at a computer, worth half the grade, in which students write, test and correct programs for set tasks. It rewards programming fluency built through regular practice.
Which programming language is used?
Most schools teach Python, and classes use whichever language the school uses. Check the languages permitted for the student's exam series with the school.
How is it different from Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science?
Edexcel examines programming on a computer in a three-hour paper, while Cambridge 0478 examines it on paper using pseudocode. The theory overlaps a great deal.
How much does Edexcel IGCSE Computer Science tuition cost?
The fee depends on the format (1-to-1 or a small group), how many classes a week and the tutor, so there is no single figure. Send an academic advisor the exam series, the programming language used at school and a recent test on WhatsApp, and you will get the current packages and a quote, usually within one working day.
