The Edexcel IAL timetable for 2026 and 2027 has three final series: 8 to 30 October 2026, 8 to 25 January 2027 and 4 May to 10 June 2027. In Malaysia, a paper that Pearson's timetable marks "Morning" starts at 2:00 pm in January and at 1:00 pm in October and May/June, and an "Afternoon" paper starts at 5:00 pm in January and at 4:00 pm in the other two.[1]
Pearson's timetables give each paper a date and a session, and nothing more. The clock time for Malaysia sits in a separate start-time document for each series, and January's is not the same as October's or May/June's. This guide puts the two together for Mathematics, Further Mathematics, the three sciences, Economics, Business, Accounting, Psychology, Computer Science and Information Technology, and works out when each paper ends.[2]
Afterkelas teaches IAL classes online; it is not an exam centre. If your centre's timetable or your statement of entry differs from this page, follow the centre.
When are the Edexcel IAL exams in 2026 and 2027?
Pearson runs three International A Level series a year: October, January and May/June, which its timetable calls Summer 2027. All three series in the 2026 to 2027 year have final timetables, and the next October series is already out in provisional form.
| Series | Exam dates | Pearson timetable | Results day |
|---|---|---|---|
| October 2026 | 8 to 30 October 2026 | Final | Thursday 21 January 2027 |
| January 2027 | 8 to 25 January 2027 | Final | Thursday 4 March 2027 |
| May/June 2027 | 4 May to 10 June 2027 | Final | Thursday 12 August 2027 |
| October 2027 | 8 October to 1 November 2027 | Provisional | Not announced yet |
Not every subject runs in every series. October has seven: Accounting, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Economics, Physics and Mathematics, with only eight Mathematics units. January adds the rest of Mathematics, Psychology, English, Geography, History and modern languages. May/June has every subject, and it is the only series in the 2026 to 2027 timetables with Computer Science, Information Technology and Law.
What time do Edexcel IAL exams start in Malaysia?
Pearson sets Malaysia's papers by the UK clock: Morning papers at 6:00 am UK time and Afternoon papers at 9:00 am. The UK is on Greenwich Mean Time (UTC+0) in January and on British Summer Time (UTC+1) in May, June and most of October, so the same UK slot lands an hour later in Malaysia (UTC+8) in January.
| Series | "Morning" papers | "Afternoon" papers | Pearson's document |
|---|---|---|---|
| October 2026 | 1:00 pm | 4:00 pm | October exams, updated August 2026 |
| January 2027 | 2:00 pm | 5:00 pm | January exams, updated September 2026 |
| May/June 2027 | 1:00 pm | 4:00 pm | May/June exams, updated May 2026 |
Pearson gives Singapore, Brunei, Hong Kong and the Philippines the same local times as Malaysia, so the tables on this page work there too.
Your centre can move these times a little. Pearson lets centres start a paper up to 30 minutes earlier or later without asking, and anyone who starts 30 minutes early stays under supervision until at least an hour after the published start. If you sit through the British Council or another body that runs exams for Pearson, Pearson's document tells you to check the exact timings with that body.
The October document has one gap. It gives a single Malaysian row for the whole series, 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm, although the UK clocks go back on Sunday 25 October 2026, before the last five days of papers. If your centre gives different times for 26 to 30 October, follow the centre.
Edexcel IAL timetable October 2026 in Malaysia time
October runs from Thursday 8 to Friday 30 October 2026, with Morning papers at 1:00 pm and Afternoon papers at 4:00 pm. It opens with Business Unit 1 and Physics Unit 1 and closes with Economics Unit 4 and Physics Unit 6. Further Pure, Decision, M3 and S3 are not offered in October.

Which Edexcel IAL units clash in 2026 and 2027?
Two of your units clash when they share a date and a session. January 2027 has the most: P2 and Physics Unit 2 share the Afternoon session on 13 January, and P3 and Physics Unit 3 share it on 15 January, a clash for anyone sitting those Mathematics and Physics units together.
Pearson requires IAL centres to run exams under the JCQ's Instructions for Conducting Examinations, and those rules set out what happens when papers clash.[3] If your papers in one session add up to three hours or less, you sit them one after the other in that session. The centre picks the order and may give you a supervised break of up to 20 minutes, spent in the exam room under exam conditions, so it is not revision time. If they add up to more than three hours, the centre may move one paper to the other session that day, and you stay under supervision in between, without your phone and away from anyone who has sat the paper.
So the P2 and Physics Unit 2 pair, three hours in all, runs from 5:00 pm until at least 8:00 pm on 13 January. Add up the lengths below for your own units.
| When (Malaysia time) | Units in the same session |
|---|---|
| Fri 8 Jan (5:00 pm) | Biology Unit 1 (1h 30m) and Psychology Unit 1 (1h 30m) |
| Mon 11 Jan (2:00 pm) | Business Unit 1 (2h 00m) and Chemistry Unit 1 (1h 30m) |
| Mon 11 Jan (5:00 pm) | Economics Unit 1 (1h 45m) and Physics Unit 1 (1h 30m) |
| Tue 12 Jan (2:00 pm) | Accounting Unit 1 (3h 00m), Biology Unit 2 (1h 30m) and Psychology Unit 2 (2h 00m) |
| Tue 12 Jan (5:00 pm) | Chemistry Unit 2 (1h 30m) and Statistics S1 (1h 30m) |
| Wed 13 Jan (5:00 pm) | Pure Mathematics P2 (1h 30m) and Physics Unit 2 (1h 30m) |
| Thu 14 Jan (2:00 pm) | Biology Unit 3 (1h 20m) and Mechanics M1 (1h 30m) |

| Tue 19 Jan (5:00 pm) | Decision D1 (1h 30m), Physics Unit 4 (1h 45m) and Psychology Unit 3 (1h 30m) |
| Wed 20 Jan (2:00 pm) | Accounting Unit 2 (3h 00m), Biology Unit 5 (1h 45m) and Further Pure FP2 (1h 30m) |
| Wed 20 Jan (5:00 pm) | Economics Unit 4 (2h 00m) and Mechanics M2 (1h 30m) |
| Thu 21 Jan (2:00 pm) | Business Unit 4 (2h 00m) and Chemistry Unit 5 (1h 45m) |
| Thu 21 Jan (5:00 pm) | Further Pure FP3 (1h 30m) and Physics Unit 5 (1h 45m) |

| Mon 25 Jan (5:00 pm) | Mechanics M3 (1h 30m) and Psychology Unit 4 (2h 00m) |
October 2026 and May/June 2027 have far fewer shared sessions:
| When (Malaysia time) | Units in the same session |
|---|---|
| Tue 20 Oct (1:00 pm) | Business Unit 3 (2h 00m) and Chemistry Unit 3 (1h 20m) |

| Thu 10 Jun (4:00 pm) | Chemistry Unit 6 (1h 20m) and Mechanics M3 (1h 30m) |
If two of your units clash, mention it to your exams officer when you make your entry.
New for 2027: Edexcel IAL Computer Science
Computer Science is a new International A Level, taught from September 2026.[4] Its International AS units, Units 1 and 2, are examined for the first time in May/June 2027, and the full A level is first awarded in August 2028, after the May/June 2028 series.
| Unit | Date and Malaysia time | How it is sat |
|---|---|---|
| WCP01 Unit 1: Principles of Computer Science | Tuesday 11 May 2027, 1:00 to 2:30 pm (Morning, 1h 30m) | A written paper, or the same paper onscreen if the centre chooses |
| WCP02 Unit 2: Practical Programming and Problem-solving | Monday 7 June 2027, 1:00 to 4:00 pm (Morning, 3h 00m) | Programming in Python 3 on a computer, fully onscreen |
Each unit is marked out of 80 and counts for a quarter of the full A level. Pearson says its onscreen papers have the same questions as the paper versions and are taken at the same time, at a centre and under exam conditions.[5] The second-year units follow the same pattern, a theory paper and a three-hour practical. The specification lists every unit as available in January and June, but the January 2027 timetable has no Computer Science papers, so 11 May 2027 is the first chance to sit one.
Which IAL papers fall on Malaysian public holidays?
Pearson's timetable notes say each exam must be taken on the day and at the time shown, so a Malaysian public holiday does not move a paper. These holidays on the official 2027 list fall on IAL exam days.[6]
| Date | Holiday (where) | Units in this guide that day |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday 14 January 2027 | Birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan (Negeri Sembilan only) | Biology Unit 3 and Mechanics M1 at 2:00 pm; Chemistry Unit 3 and Further Pure FP1 at 5:00 pm |
| Friday 22 January 2027 | Thaipusam (Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Perak and Selangor) | Biology Unit 6 at 2:00 pm; Chemistry Unit 6 and Statistics S3 at 5:00 pm |
| Thursday 20 May 2027 | Wesak Day (every state) | Biology Unit 3 at 4:00 pm |
| Monday 7 June 2027 | Official birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (every state) | Computer Science Unit 2 at 1:00 pm; Pure Mathematics P4 at 4:00 pm |
| Thursday 28 October 2027 (provisional timetable) | Deepavali (every state except Sarawak) | Physics Unit 5, Morning session; Pure Mathematics P4, Afternoon session |
English Language, English Literature, Geography and modern language papers also fall on some of these days, so check Pearson's full timetable if you take them. Pearson left Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 May 2027, the two days listed for Hari Raya Qurban, free of IAL papers. Our 2027 school holidays guide sets out the year's public holidays and what they mean for school.
Edexcel IAL October 2027 provisional timetable
Pearson released the October 2027 timetable as provisional in September 2026 and asked centres for feedback by Friday 9 October 2026.[7] It runs from Friday 8 October to Monday 1 November 2027, with the same seven subjects and eight Mathematics units as October 2026.
| Subject | Units and provisional dates |
|---|---|
| Mathematics | P1: Mon 11 Oct; M1: Wed 13 Oct; P2: Fri 15 Oct; S1: Tue 19 Oct; P3: Thu 21 Oct; M2: Fri 22 Oct; S2: Tue 26 Oct; P4: Thu 28 Oct |
| Physics | Unit 1: Fri 8 Oct; Unit 2: Fri 15 Oct; Unit 3: Tue 19 Oct; Unit 4: Thu 21 Oct; Unit 5: Thu 28 Oct; Unit 6: Mon 1 Nov |
| Chemistry | Unit 1: Mon 11 Oct; Unit 2: Wed 13 Oct; Unit 3: Wed 20 Oct; Unit 4: Fri 22 Oct; Unit 5: Tue 26 Oct; Unit 6: Fri 29 Oct |
| Biology | Unit 1: Tue 12 Oct; Unit 2: Thu 14 Oct; Unit 3: Mon 18 Oct; Unit 4: Mon 25 Oct; Unit 5: Wed 27 Oct; Unit 6: Fri 29 Oct |
| Economics | Unit 1: Tue 12 Oct; Unit 2: Mon 18 Oct; Unit 3: Mon 25 Oct; Unit 4: Mon 1 Nov |
| Business | Unit 1: Fri 8 Oct; Unit 2: Thu 14 Oct; Unit 3: Wed 20 Oct; Unit 4: Wed 27 Oct |
| Accounting | Unit 1: Wed 20 Oct; Unit 2: Wed 27 Oct |
Treat these dates as a guide until the final version replaces them. The provisional timetable gives only dates and Morning or Afternoon sessions, and the UK clocks go back on Sunday 31 October 2027, the day before the last two papers, so look again at the Malaysian start times once the final version is out.
When is the Edexcel IAL entry deadline for January and June 2027?
These are Pearson's deadlines for centres, from the Key Dates section of its 2026/27 Information Manual.[8]
| Series | Centres can enter from | Pearson's deadline | Fee doubles from | Fee trebles from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| October 2026 | 20 July 2026 | Friday 28 August 2026 | 29 August 2026 | 25 September 2026 |
| January 2027 | 4 September 2026 | Friday 16 October 2026 | 17 October 2026 | 14 November 2026 |
| May/June 2027 | 20 November 2026 | Sunday 21 March 2027 | 22 March 2027 | 22 April 2027 |
After the deadline, the entry fee for each unit doubles, and from the high late fee date it trebles. Pearson refunds a withdrawn entry automatically up to that second date, and after it only with medical evidence. If January is your last series, the cash-in for your overall grade is due by the same deadline; Pearson charges a fee for any cash-in requested after it.
Your centre has to collect your entry before it can send it on, so its own closing date comes earlier. Ask your school, college or exam centre for that date and its fee for each unit. Private candidates enter through a Pearson-approved centre, which Pearson's Find an international centre search lists, and pay that centre, which may add its own administration fee.[9]
Should you resit a unit in January or wait for June?
January's entry deadline comes long before October's results. Entries for January 2027 close at Pearson on 16 October 2026, but October 2026 results arrive on 21 January 2027, when the January papers are nearly over, so anyone resitting an October unit in January has to enter without knowing the October result. June works the other way round: January results come out on 4 March 2027, before the June deadline of 21 March, so you can decide on June resits with your January results in hand.
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| Friday 16 October 2026 | Pearson's deadline for January 2027 entries |
| Friday 30 October 2026 | Last October 2026 papers |
| Friday 8 January 2027 | January 2027 papers begin |
| Thursday 21 January 2027 | October 2026 results |
| Monday 25 January 2027 | Last January 2027 papers |
| Thursday 4 March 2027 | January 2027 results |
| Sunday 21 March 2027 | Pearson's deadline for June 2027 entries |
| Tuesday 4 May 2027 | May/June 2027 papers begin |
Pearson lets you resit an IAL unit as many times as you like. When it works out your overall grade, it uses the best result from your two most recent attempts at each unit, as long as you are entered under the same Unique Candidate Identifier (UCI).[10]
What to bring to an Edexcel IAL exam
Pearson's materials list for the October 2026 series sets out what candidates must have for each paper, and Pearson publishes a new list before each series, so check the one for yours.[11]
| Subject | What you need |
|---|---|
| Mathematics | A calculator and the yellow Mathematical Formulae and Statistical Tables booklet |
| Physics | A scientific calculator and a ruler, plus a protractor for Unit 1 |
| Chemistry | A scientific calculator and a ruler, plus the Data Booklet for Units 2, 4 and 5 |
| Biology | A scientific calculator, a ruler and an HB pencil; the Unit 5 paper comes with a scientific article |
| Economics, Business and Accounting | The source booklet that comes with the paper |
The same list sets rules for every paper. Write in black ink or ball-point pen unless the paper says otherwise, leave pale gel pens and correcting pens, fluid or paper at home, and bring no dictionary unless the paper allows one or you have an approved access arrangement to use one. Pearson's inspectors also check, in the exam room, that:
- phones and other web-enabled devices are not with you;
- watches are taken off and placed on the desk in front of you;
- water bottles are clear, with no label;
- a pencil case, if you need one, is see-through;
- bags and coats are at the front of the room or outside it.
When are the Edexcel IAL results days in 2027?
| Results day | Series | Malaysia time |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday 21 January 2027 | October 2026 | Schools may release from 4:00 pm; ResultsPlus Direct opens at 5:00 pm |
| Thursday 4 March 2027 | January 2027 | Schools may release from 4:00 pm; ResultsPlus Direct opens at 5:00 pm |
| Thursday 12 August 2027 | May/June 2027 | Schools may release from 3:00 pm; ResultsPlus Direct opens at 4:00 pm |
Pearson lets schools and colleges release results from 8:00 am UK time, which is 4:00 pm in Malaysia in January and March and 3:00 pm in August. ResultsPlus Direct, its free online results service, opens an hour later, at 9:00 am UK time.[12] The UK is on GMT in January and March and on BST in August, which is why the Malaysian times are an hour earlier in August. Your centre receives results a day earlier but may not release them to you before results day, when Pearson also posts its grade boundaries.

ResultsPlus Direct opens at 9:00 am UK time: 5:00 pm in Malaysia in January and March, and 4:00 pm in August.
Can I resit an October 2026 unit in January 2027?
Yes, if you enter by your centre's closing date, which comes before Pearson's deadline of 16 October 2026. October results only come out on 21 January 2027, so you will enter without knowing your October result. Pearson uses the best of your two most recent attempts at a unit when it works out your overall grade.
Is the new IAL Computer Science in the January 2027 series?
No. International A Level Computer Science is first examined in May/June 2027: Unit 1 on Tuesday 11 May and Unit 2, an onscreen programming paper, on Monday 7 June 2027, both from 1:00 pm Malaysian time.
Do IAL exams go ahead on Malaysian public holidays?
Yes. Each paper is taken on the day and at the time on Pearson's timetable. In 2027, IAL papers fall on Thaipusam (22 January, a holiday in several states), Wesak Day (20 May) and the Agong's official birthday (7 June), among other days.
Is the October 2027 IAL timetable final?
No. Pearson released it as provisional in September 2026. It runs from Friday 8 October to Monday 1 November 2027, and its dates can change before the final version is published.
Do these start times apply in Singapore and Brunei?
Yes. Pearson's start-time documents give Singapore and Brunei the same local times as Malaysia: 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm in January, and 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm in October and May/June.
If Pearson corrects a final timetable, its notice and your centre's own timetable take precedence over this page.
